First mainstream game that had 'snap' building?
I'm referring to the kind of building you see in a lot of survival-crafting games where you snap tiles together, walls, etc.,
I was thinking on this and the earliest game of note that came to mind was actually Fallout 4.
It can't be Fallout 4β¦ Can it?
Not referring to e.g., minecraft style blocks.

Did the earliest 2013 build have it?

The protoplasm for kind of technology probably started back in the roller coaster /race track designer type games. Once those went 3D, it kind of became free form piece snapping like a real train set.
Dark Cloud had a very primitive version of what you're thinking of. It wasn't in depth but it was fun.
Galactic Civilizations II had a ship builder with snapping hardpoints. That's 2006.

Nah, I remember seeing fallout 4's base building mechanics and being disappointed as I'd seen it several times already before that game came out.rusty_shackleford wrote: β September 10th, 2025, 01:54I'm referring to the kind of building you see in a lot of survival-crafting games where you snap tiles together, walls, etc.,

I don't remember what games exactly, probably some small indie games or something. I just remember it being a trend that Bethesda jumped onto.rusty_shackleford wrote: β September 10th, 2025, 02:52You gotta be more specific than thatDecadeRiptide wrote: β September 10th, 2025, 02:52Nah, I remember seeing fallout 4's base building mechanics and being disappointed as I'd seen it a several times already before that game came out.
