Decided there should be a thread chronicling the truly nausea-inducing sound effects found in some video games. These are two childhood examples of mine to start with. From personal experience, I generally can't stand some of the audio in older Sonic titles, as well as Mario ones.
In Sonic, the sound of jumping is extremely irritating to me, and it's the sound you hear the MOST while playing through the classic Genesis saga. Why they chose to give Sonic such an obnoxious, blaring noise I'll never understand, but for what it's worth they did tone it down a little for Sonic CD.
Then there's the sound of charging up the spin dash, again, this is something you'll be doing a lot in Sonic 2 and Sonic 3. It sounds much louder in-game.
And for Mario, well, it's his **** VOICE. I know Charles Martinet as Mario is iconic, and in certain instances the voice is harmless or "cute", but after years of playing these games I'm sick to death of it. I'd rather Mario be 100% mute in-game with only the jump sound from Mario World as a replacement, if only to never hear the words "Wahoo!" or "Yipee!" ever again.
