Hollow Knight is the 6th most played game in HowLongToBeat, very popular in general. And this sequel took way too long. It's been a long time coming and a lot of people waiting.

Was this particularly expensive? It looks like a relatively inexpensive 2D platformer, and not with a humongous amount of drawings like cuphead or a lot of VFX work like Ori.

Any game that's in development for 7 years is going to be expensive, but when your development team is mostly four people who already made a gorillion dollars off of the first release, the relativity of "expensive" is totally different.

I'm glad these three guys now have tens of millions more dollars from selling a $20 game though, making the other loser indie devs seethe with envy.

Unless you're in the top 1% of games by copies sold, you need to be lowering your price.

I assure devs that whatever you think is too cheap is actually too high. I won't even get into the economics of how digital goods are able to be infinitely reproduced without any effort required:
The fastest way to get more copies sold on Steam is more reviews, to get more reviews your game needs to be cheaper. Lower that price.


And yes that means you should up the price over time, not lower it, as long as you're still seeing a modest increase in sales(early access titles do this all the time!)

Every indie dev thinks their game is the next Rimworld or whatever and tries to use pricing tactics used by games like Rimworld. It's not, your game is not capturing anywhere near the same massive audience due to fulfilling a niche segment of the market. Only a handful of games have ever done that(Stardew Valley, Terraria, etc.,)

Moreover, a simple stroll on the wiki shows that every warrior NPC is a woman, and every wimpy NPC is a guy. With the exception of the guy hunting down the protagonist, that one is evil so he can be a masculine guy as much as one likes ofc *rolls eyes*.

The devs are clearly woke for other reasons (the nailsmith, etc.), but there are lots of insect species in which the females are bigger and stronger than the males. Strong female bug warriors aren't out of place.
