RPGs you beat then immediately replayed

Post by rusty_shackleford »

Most recently I did this with Hero's Adventure: Road to Passion because it's an incredibly open-ended game with plenty of different ways to play thru it. Plus getting achievements gives you points to unlock new stuff at the character creator so after your first real playthru you have a ton of those to spend on cool stuff.

Recently:
Alpha Protocol 5 times in a row.
KotOR 1 twice.
VtMB like 4 times, I think. Maybe 3.
Overall:
Every Mass Effect and Dragon Age game at least twice. ME1-3 like 6 times each, DAO and DA2 about a dozen times. That was a crazy year. I just wasted like 50 hours a week playing from dawn till dusk.
Jade Empire 3-4 times.
KotOR 2 about 3-4 times.
Technomancer twice.
Bound by Flames twice.
Deus Ex Human Revolution 2-3 times.
Cyberpunk 2077 at least 4 times. Twice before the rework and twice after.
Shadowrun Dragonfall 3 times in a row.

Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2 each two times in a row when they came out. Really loved the combat and character building on the highest difficulty.

KOTOR 2 is the only one I immediately jumped back into because I didn't know that you could turn your companions into Jedi/Sith. I also wanted to hear Kreia call me an idiot for a different set of reasons.

Not sure I've ever done it with a standard RPG, but if we include tactics RPGs:

Voidspire Tactics to play on the highest difficulty, which unlocks after beating it the first time (or maybe after beating it on Hard; I don't remember).
Triangle Strategy, twice, to try the different routes. The second run is really fun because you keep your character advancement from the first run, so you have a lot of abilities and options, but the level cap is still pretty far away.

Also Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, if that counts.

Demon's Souls and Dark Souls. The combat was so satisfying to me, that I had to start up again to try a new build.

Yeah, unless it is an RTS/Strategy game, I never replayed. There have been some RPGs I have replayed, but usually only after 15-20+ years.

I guess it is why I dislike the whole "But we need to make the game have x, y, z... for replayablity!"

Would rather they put out an expansion of the same exact type of game, but with a new story.

I've replayed RPGs and other games but I can't remember one I've replayed immediately.

I've only ever done this with one game and that was the original Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. The ending really made me want to go through again. Definitely the best ending to any JRPG.

Final Fantasy Tactics. Don't know how many times. Love testing all 'one class only' runs and handicapping certain restrictions, using family/friends as units. Always get lvl 99 too. I just want to walk in place...one more time.

I also beat KotC 2 as it released. Now, years later, as a lark, I reinstalled it to see what Pierre has been up to.

The game is completely ruined. He added horrible graphics and terrible voice acting. The music is ***. It looks so cheap now. Everything reeks of AI. I hate it now.

Oh and it went from what, 40 MB to 2.1 GB.

I forgot to answer the actual question.

BG 1, 2
Arcanum
Fallout 1, 2, NV
ToEE (unpatched!)
Deus Ex
Morrowind
Undertale (not that I'd consider this an RPG but I didn't want to make Tweed look weird by himself)

I'd noticed the game was receiving updates, but as they weren't The Dark Arena expansion I'd been ignoring them. Looks like there have been many changes to the classes and even the enemy units in the Augury of Chaos itself.
► For example both party member and enemy barbarians appear to now have access to some kind of spell casting involving spirit animals?
That is sad news indeed, the campaign I ran has now been lost to time. No one, including myself, will be able to experience the same challenges I encountered and then overcome them with the same tools. Image

On the positive side, it does look like Heroic Fantasy Games has been pretty busy squashing bugs since I last ran KotC 2. Image

RPGs you beat then immediately replayed
For RPGs only Chrono Trigger comes to mind. :pipe-thinking:
