No RPG elements? It probably goes here!

English VAs are in the process of making themselves very unappealing with their hysterics and increasing attempts to strongarm companies via their gay unions, so I imagine we'll be seeing an increasing push for AI voice acting in the future.

Darth Vader's actor already signed away the rights to his voice before his death, so the ice is already broken in that regard. All that is needed is for the English VAs to have another few chimpouts for publishers to get fed up enough to attempt a big project voice partially or fully with AI, and once they see that the general public could give less of a flying **** about muh worker rights, the floodgates will truly open.

Oh, right, let me post the dysgenic VA freak again:

Imagine being a company and having to pay this thing to be featured in your product, while the mutant is busy on social media alienating a massive chunk of the potential userbase with her antics.
For all her yammering on about protecting the worker, I have seen her type of solutions end up completely ******* the workers (well, the talented and hard working). She wants to leverage politics and bureaucracy, not protect work value.

I've been playing WoW with the mod that has NPCs speak quest dialogue automatically after you instantly accept it and sprint away. It's really nice. I'm learning so much about these quests I've never cared about before.

There are definitely some issues with it. Some races/genders sound better than others, I heard someone say "asterisk sob asterisk" once, trolls have a weird English accent, and there's no NPC voice consistency if they have multiple quests. I'd still say that, overall, the AI voice acting is much better than some random clips of retail WoW cutscenes I just found on YouTube. In those cutscenes they sound like anime dub voice actors, but with this mod most NPCs sound like... video game characters? I realize that's a horrible way to describe it, but they're more like cool RTS units instead of melodramatic west coast libfriends if that makes sense.

The technology is almost there, especially with the off-the-shelf quality we currently have. Probably not long until we see a AA-sized game use full AI voice acting

Yeah expecting a backlash to it to try and stop it, definitely a review bomb. Dunno how Steam will handle it.

The luddites are going to be on the losing end of this. AI writes like AI, but it can still catch things I miss when it comes to editing. I'd use AI voicing in a heartbeat rather than pay some troony flake with VA pasted on their bluesky name, and generate textures all day long.

Really weird how AI became sorta right-wing ish (?) due to the overwhelming libtard rejection of it and demand for more regulation.

I heard bl*zzard banned this mod, anyone know why?

Hello TioMiklas,

I’m Josh Allen, from the World of Warcraft Community Team. We came across your Voice Acted Quests project, and I have to say, the work you’ve put into it is very impressive!

Unfortunately, I’ve been told that this project infringes on our intellectual copyrights in a way that we can’t allow. You may recall a similar situation with an addon called β€œWarcraft Tales” a few months ago. While your project is slightly different, it’s still considered a re-performance of our established works.

Because of that, we have to ask you to stop production and distribution of the Voice Acted Quests project. Rather than going straight to delivering a legal notice, they’ve asked me to contact you directly to deliver the news and answer any questions you may have. Like I said, it’s a very impressive project and we recognize the amount of work you’ve put into it, it’s just not the sort of thing we can allow to be created using our copyright.

Sorry for the bad news,

Josh
The issue isn't about any potential monetary gains. The issue is simply that Blizzard doesn't want third parties to create in-game story content for WoW, and creating a vocal performance for existing lines falls inside that. No one here thinks you’re trying to be malicious – I’m being completely honest when I say we found your work impressive!

That’s about the extent of what I can comment on myself. Anything further would need to come from our legal team.
People are still using it, or an alternate mod, as of a few months ago.
"Our lawyers could have given you a revocable license to address the legal risks we are worried about, but instead we banned it."

Art and beauty is subjective, until a computer can do it. Then it's literally rape.

I don't like AI because it's being used by the corporations and the various ***** to fill the internet with a tidal wave of mass produced low effort slop. Yeah having cheap ai-voices or cheap ai-art is nice, but i'd rather have everything expensive but with a smaller amount of ai-generated slop.

Right now everything is expensive man-made slop.

There's a high budget Chinese game called Where Winds Meet which uses AI when you talk to NPCs. It's kind of cool for 5 minutes but then it probably gets a bit pointless as it's mostly just role play. It's a new game too, still awaiting official release

We are on a very clear path to allowing you to talk via microphone to NPCs and the journalists are going to forgive AI when that happens due to how "immersive" and "cinematic" it is to navigate a dialog tree without text on the screen as Commander Shepard in Mass Effect 7.

Bring every NPC to life with AI. Mantella allows you to have natural, real-time conversations with NPCs by leveraging speech-to-text, LLMs, and text-to-speech technologies. NPCs have memories of your previous conversations, are aware of in-game events, have vision, and can even perform actions.
-Interact with every NPC in real-time, including modded NPCs
-Over 3,000 NPCs have been given their own unique background descriptions
-Support for local, OpenRouter, and OpenAI language models
-Compatibility with 20+ languages
-NPCs remember previous conversations
-NPCs are aware of in-game info such as their location, the current time, and any items you pick up
-NPCs can be convinced to become a follower, may attack you if you offend them, and can share their inventory
-NPCs can see what you see (for models that support vision)
-NPCs can start conversations with each other (Radiant Dialogue)
-You can add as many NPCs to a group conversation as you like
-Fully playable in VR / SE / AE (up to .1170)

It will be AAA first then trickle down from there exponentially since they can afford the vocal pushback in bad press and consumers not caring in large.

Not weird at all. Artists are almost entirely left-wing, and generally the most strident enemies of the right. AI decreases their power and influence. Therefore, AI is good.
