Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy
*sees Kroot is female*
Oh ****, that is going to be the "exotic" romance option for people who been demanding xenos and specifically tau gfs isn't it?
So far can't say i'm hyped about the news or companions, maybe an ork freeboota is really all that can save this game now. But then i'd be asking myself, why not just play an ork rpg? A lot of owlcats mechanics would suddenly make more sense, like upgrading your kroozer with bits of gubbinz you acquire from adventuring to turn your pathetic starting ship with a few grotguns into a massive but ungainly thing bristlling with dakka.
Yeah i'm still not over how in RT i was fighting against chaos fleets and necrons with a goddamn sword class, aka the ships i'd be using as canon fodder in any other context.

Sounds a lot like sexy goblin girl obsession in modern DnD.BlueMemphis wrote: ↑ May 30th, 2025, 21:42*sees Kroot is female*

After some thought In the Owlcat interview I get the feeling they’re underplaying how the choice of being fully VA will affect many aspects of the game to its foundational levels.
(they did admit that narrative writers had to do changes in the pipeline in what is typically done in dev process)
My guess at least for the DLC’s is that they won’t be second season this time around, or there won’t be new companions for each DLC release due to logistics/ exponential costs in having to record each new companion lines from beginning to end

TLDR
- Cameo appearance of a character from Rogue Trader.
- Will have more verticality in the environments
- May have a ork companion
- There will be romances
- Dispositions will be Radical or Puritan
- Will build upon and refine Rogue Trader system
- Many changes to how archetypes work
- Removing momentum from RT but adding Morality system for each character in order to speed up combat
- Since the game will be fully voiced acted Dark Heresy will be shorter than Rogue Trader

The most unlikely of people are joined together on a WACKY adventure through the GRIMDARK universe of 40k! What crazy shenanigans will the inquisitor get up to on xir quest to smash the patriarchy or whatever it is they do? OMGLOL!
I think they are ditching Unity and switching to Unreal Engine, so I guess that at least this problem will be solved(or made even worse, they will be probably more focused in putting 'we wuz inkisitor and shiieet' in every corner of the game).rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ August 16th, 2025, 05:21How about they focus on loading screens in all their games taking foreverDrSneed wrote: ↑ August 16th, 2025, 04:50https://store.steampowered.com/news/app ... 7009470720

I don’t hate the idea for fully VA CRPG’s however there is very large trade offs that IMO not worth the additional investment.Mortadela_Viva wrote: ↑ August 22nd, 2025, 12:38

I’m calling it now Dark Heresy going to need to sell two million copies around the first four to six months after release to be considered a financial success because of the increase production cost ( mostly due to it being fully voiced instead)

So, let me get this straight, these shitlib Russians make a Rogue Trader cRPG, and one of your companions is a Sister of Battle, and then they decide to make a Dark Heresy cRPG, where one of your companions is a ******* Kroot?
Why are they like this?

There actually was black inquisitor in 40k already, 20+ years ago, in Dawn of War. Despite having very few and short appearances in campaign with only a few levels as controllable character and being a stand-in for campaign's Librarian, he was pretty cool and i really liked his VA, which was all around great in that game.

Owlcat getting to me again. The locations and unit design + details is insane. The whole thing seems to have a more cinematic feel like the expansions from Rogue Trader. On first glance this looks like a solid jump in quality compared to base Rogue Trader.

Is it multiplayer?
I don't see why anyone would play this over Darktide.

Other than both being in the 40k universe both of these are completely different games. DH isn't multiplayer, but something that's more heavily accented on the story and narrative. Contrast this to Darktide where you go over maps in an arcade type of fashion.DecadeRiptide wrote: ↑ December 19th, 2025, 07:47Is it multiplayer?

Listened to this schmucks video. Looks like we are getting normal currency this time, not that boring PF **** we got before. Other interesting things that were mentioned: combat encounters will have b) objectives - save the civilians, don't let them destroy the flag or other **** like this, additionally if enemies want to throw grenades at you they'll need to pass a concentration check which the player will be able to interrupt (this is action specific, not limited to grenades per se). Steps in the right direction for me - making combat more varied and more player interactive. The mini-game of choice this time seems to be the investigation system. On paper this system sounds a lot more interesting than the previous ones OC have done. Hopefully the writing isn't just serviceable and is actually good - and we might have a homerun here.
Everything so far sounds good and a vast improvement on their previous 40k game. I can feel my legs getting ready to jump the hype train.

The eldar seer is way better eldar representation than yrliet was in RT
******
The human male companion is insanely bland and I didn't like using him in combat
Ogryn is an Ogryn so he's based by default. Kinda annoying have to manage a guy who takes up 4 spaces, but there's a charge modifier that makes it so he can charge through people so that helped
Kroot is interesting and on the stronger side because of her insane bleed build up
Psyker is pretty boring, but pretty good at chaff clearing and combined with a flamer user cleans up battlefields pretty quickly.
Alpha was alright. Closer to the end it got more interesting with all the warp-y ********.
Supposedly the next companion reveal is gonna be a romanceable female tech priest.

Fallout 1 and 2 did it and we all consider them some of the best RPGs of all time. I'm sure their UI can't match, because everyone has a different screen these days, but the idea itself is absolutely HQ, imo.
