There are starter digimon. You journey through the human and digimon world.

First game has one protagonist, the girl in the yellow raincoat, second game adds the boy with the paper bag on his head. Third game is made by a new developer with a new pair of characters.

I unfortunately don't know much about Gundam, so I guess sorry that you didn't get what you wanted?

Gundam is huge in Japan, yet Bandai hasn't bothered making a new big budget game for the original UC, or any of the various "alternative" timelines since the PS3 days. The only mech related things they're making is either Super Robot Wars or Gundam Breaker (which is all about cobbling together mechs from various parts).

Gihren's Greed is basically turn-based space Hearts of Iron, or sci-fi ROTK, in that you can become the leader of a faction and change the course of history, or start as a lowly grunt and work your way up the ranks via battles. The games feature a truly ridiculous number of mechs, basically every type and variant from across 50 years, and hundreds upon hundreds of name characters.
