Icewind Dale 2

Post by Eyestabber »

I can't believe there's no thread for either IWD, as you ******** ***** would rather discuss Pozzer's Gate 3 or Kangdom Cum: Same Sex Adventures for over a hundred pages. Anyway, my D20 romp continues and now it's time for IWD 2. Installed the game with the newly released Enhanced Edition MOD. So far I'm liking it, but it's a huge departure for ToEE's faithful implementation of 3rd edition ruleset. The feats in IWD 2 feels like christmas, WAY more powerful than their PnP counterparts. Permanent spell casting while silenced? Yes, please!

We're still in chapter one, lvl 3 so far.

Good to know I can get a badge for the fist game. Would've been nice to get a bonus badge for this one. Anyway, my latest games have been ALL JAG worthy.

It's very linear and much more tactical combat focused. It also has a lot of reactivity to your class/race/skills/stats - most of that is at the beginning and tapers off later, although the EE mod does add more to later parts of the game (if you install those components).

The biggest change, of course, is using the 3.0 (NOT 3.5!) ruleset.

I'll have to check out this EE mod for IW2, although I've been meaning to play IW1 first. Haven't been in much of an RPG mood lately but it's my top contender when that happens. Icewind Dale was always superior to Baldurs Gate. The soundtrack is some of Jeremy Soules best work and the atmosphere of the locations is top notch. It always captured what I wanted from these games. Plus, I love being waylaid by 20 skeletons.

Man that released in 2002 could have sworn it was older feels like 25 years since I played this. Didnt you have to make your whole party yourself? Think I tried playing the enhanced edition recently but didnt really had the motivation to go past the introduction after char creation. Probably too much to read at the beginning cant remember.

There's no IWD2EE because they lost the source code(thankfully).

The beamshit EEs caused a major setback in GemRB because it took a lot of wind out of their sails, IWD2EE is one of the few things that keeps a lot of interest in it going.

IWD2 was one of the best looking pre-rendered games until Obsidian's pillars of eternity games. Great grafx.

What popular isometric games came out after BG1/2 and Icewind Dale1/2 and Fallout1/2? Between PoE release in 2015? Cant think of any for that last sentence to make much sense... graphic arent exactly their selling points anyway. And I doubt I could replay these with my low attention span brain these days. :turtle:

But some of the OST surely was nice.

It's not a subgenre that translates well to consoles so it died until the PC game revival in early 2010s

Forum search is officially **** then, because I searched for icewind Dale in thread titles and got nothing. Mods can merge the threads then.

We made it to chapter 2 and are almost lvl 7. I remember IWD 2 being hard, but not this hard. The EE mod increases enemies accross the board and makes the game much more difficult while also providing more useful magical items. This is exactly the sort of balancing I enjoy: more tools at my disposal and more opportunities for slaughter. I forgot to introduce the party:
iwd2_4H5fq5gs6a.jpg
Thog Bal'Krug: half-orc fighter barbarian. According to the game he is responsible for 33% of all kills. He is a rehash of my ToEE build, but with greataxe instead of falchion
iwd2_16opCE6DdG.jpg
Holy Eyestabber: human fighter/paladin of Ilmater. Huge AC and saving throws. Also a rehash from ToEE
iwd2_Kd2Y7GIIwF.jpg
Healbot: human cleric of Lathander. Dedicated support
iwd2_fSUHkMEYHr.jpg
Velarus Greenthumb: human druid. Secondary nuker/ranged DPS/support
iwd2_hsjj2A8oem.jpg
Malek Firestaff: human sorcerer. Magic missile machinegun whose damage is about to overtake the paladin. Also the party's face (bluff)
iwd2_b2QYswR0lR.jpg
Sneaky Magicool Guy: human rogue/enchanter. Ranged dps, party rogue, control mage and secondary nuker all in one
