You ever seen a studio lose so many employees its game rolls back into beta? I know It's a first for me.

Building the Splitgate you deserve

(...)

So we're going back to beta. We'll be heads down until early next year, rebuilding major parts of the game to capture the spirit of what made Splitgate special

(...)

Rebuilding the core experience isn't a quick fix; it's a long-term commitment. To give ourselves the time to build the Splitgate you deserve, we’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to reduce certain roles and shift our resources to focus on this rework. This is heartbreaking. These are our teammates and our friends, and they helped build what we have today. They're receiving severance and job placement support, and we're committed to doing everything we can to help them through this transition. We hope to bring them back when we can.

In an effort to retain as many team members as possible, we're also going to be shutting down OG Splitgate servers in a month. While we'd love to keep servers online indefinitely, it's cost us hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past couple of years, and we have to prioritize our team. Like us, we know this game means a lot to so many of you, so we are exploring the possibility of supporting offline or peer-to-peer matches. And when we return, we plan to have a dedicated experience in Splitgate 2 that delivers on the promise of the original.

See? If Stop Killing Games wins, companies like this would have to fire more people!

Seeing this get picked up by a bunch of big political names because they're also hiring a bunch of H1Bs for many of the same positions & areas they're firing people at.
Wouldn't be surprised if this gets the notice of Stephen Miller or someone similar now that the BBB fiasco is over.
Vance brought it up in talks, likely being used as a major reason for h1b reform(?). Gamedevs finally being useful.

I had to look up what Slipgate actually was, and it turns out it's a gay(er) Warframe first person shooter with ***** colors.

Gotta love the corpo speak - "We're firing people to make the game better" - unless the people they're firing are women and minorities that is a lie.

If they're shutting down the servers for the original game, which probably cost a chump change to keep on, they're well and truly ******, and deservedly so for ******** out another live service turd.

Well the canadian taxpayer or Soros better pay for that then, since USAID is gone.

Would credit for that not go to the artists working on the movies?

Kinda shocked we don't have The Chinese Room layoff news yet, now that Bl∞dlines is out but I guess they have to beg the government first over there in Europe.

My understanding is that almost all of the new stuff in these images were made by the Ubisoft team. A lot of it doesn't quite jive with the sensibilities of the core Avatar movie artist team like Wayne Barlowe's art, Dylan Cole, Steven Messing, etc. IIRC it was either Cameron or Barlowe who wanted Avatar creatures to not have hair so as to help make them standout, but here in this spinoff there are at least two creatures (the little cute critter, and the big buffalo that accompanies one of the nomadic tribes) that have hair. In the above images, the only thing that predates the game and definitively originally made by the movie team is this area of huge trees with the coral platters on the side. That appears to be based off a similar area from the Flight of Passage ride that was produced by the Avatar movie team of artists with Dylan Cole and co. @1:20

Interesting, apparently a large portion of the recent tech layoffs were H1B visa holders(source: me sources)
Wonder if the recent AWS/Azure outages were related to this

Rockstar Firings Get Messy Ahead of GTA 6: Accusations Range from "Gross Misconduct" to Union Busting and Unjust Layoffs
Ahead of the expected May 2026 launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, Rockstar Games has laid off between 30 and 40 employees across its Canada and UK offices. This sparked immediate tension between the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain and the game studio, with the IWGB Game Workers account on X posting that "This is the most ruthless act of union busting in the history of the UK games industry. Yesterday, @RockstarGames fired over 30 employees for union activity." According to reporting by Bloomberg, the affected workers were all either part of a workers union or in the process of becoming part of a union. The IWGB has vowed to "fight for every member to be reinstated."

Take Two, the parent company of Rockstar, for its part, defended the firings, citing "gross misconduct" on the part of the employees. Take Two's spokesperson, speaking to Bloomberg, also says that "we fully support Rockstar's ambitions and approach." There is speculation that these firings were part of a crackdown on leakers inside the company, which was also a justification for the company's recent return to office mandate. Previously, Rockstar also went after a hacker who managed to steal data from Rockstar and leak clips online, resulting in a life sentence in hospital. It remains to see how this most recent case plays out, though, and its unclear how many of the affected employees are from the Canada office, where the UK workers union would likely not be able to intervene.

Seriously funny to watch them try as they just get replaced with outsourcing and AI and have no leverage. It made sense in the factory / coal mine days because companies had to take care of their employees living in a ******, smokey factory town because there was no one else who would move there without incentive or petitioning the government for immigrants.
