Ross going from not knowing what climate change will do in one video and admitting he doesn't know, to pretending he's an expert on the subject a year later and lecturing on how the world is going to be DESTROYED by it is why nobody takes climate doomers seriously.

One thing I'm fascinated about is the unspoken language of video games, or to put in less pretentious terms, how do people with little exposure to video games perceive them, both from a mechanical standpoint, but also as a hobby.

I'm sure a lot of people have already seen the first video - guy makes his wife play video games and discusses the various tropes and conventions that gamers are accustomed to, and how such a "language" is completely foreign to newbies:

Second video is wholesome, son convinces his father to play Dark Souls and has an interview with him after the dad beats the game:

Not really about video games per se, but an interesting primer on how Western fantasy, and especially D&D, spread across and influenced Japan.

"I'm going to force my wife, who never played videogames before, to play Doom 2016 (an FPS notorious for requiring fast reflexes), TLOU (a heavily scripted moviegame that won't be all that useful in this research) and Dark Souls (meme difficult game that intentionally subverted and broke a lot of modern game design tropes)."

Terrible choice of games.

so you've got six main abilities you may have heard of them before they are strength dexterity constitution
intelligence wisdom charisma i've got no idea where they've got those from but they're really good but oh look they've changed the order now the
reason that strength dex and con are with each other in the first place is because they are physical abilities and intelligence
wisdom and charisma are mental traits
but they've got it differently they've got strength intelligence wisdom
constitution dexterity charisma for some unknown reason
mixing around the six dnd
stats isn't going to make it any less obvious you've just stolen them

Yes. And the order here is because of a reason.
Do you know what it is? I do.
You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

This guy does a lot of older RPG videos but I don't particularly care for his personality, just feels very monotone and boring
https://www.youtube.com/@aquawalrus/videos

But as I stated, he does a lot of older games so you could do worse for some of them. e.g., I completely forgot this existed

I think Soulslike games would be better if enemies would not respawn, it gets tedious moving from bonfire to boss fight because you either get careless trying to get to the boss as fast as possible and thus lose precious healing or you don't go and instead grind to level up.

That would trivialize all the non-boss sections and turn most of it into some popamole thing

The one trick all the souslikes don't tell you is that you can usually run past all enemies, if you know where you're going. They have a very limited aggro range.

You only really need to fight the mobs if you're in a new map, exploring for loot or farming experience and drops.

Dark Souls games used to be about problem solving skills and you beeing careful until you find the next bonfire. Its that feeling of relief of finally getting a checkpoint after a really ****** area with annoying monsters. It didnt used to be for normies who want to relax after a long work day and "just have fun". If you want that play something else. And you can run past most enemies. The newer games even have often bonfires directly before a boss.

I think I heard being said that Dota changed in some way, but I thought things were still like this. Are they not anymore?

Its still decently fun, but it just doesn't quite have the same charm. A lot of the more interesting and strange interactions like that got removed in the name of balance over the years.
