Outer worlds is a bottom rung AA brand.
If your rpg costs $20 more than BG3 & your company isn't named larian -- stop! You messed up.
I have to wonder if marketing departments even have people who studied economics in them anymore. There's no way thus results in more profit.

The game is Goypass bait. They already know nobody is going to buy itrusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ July 9th, 2025, 00:52Outer worlds is a bottom rung AA brand.Valter wrote: ↑ July 9th, 2025, 00:51Welcome to 2025 gaming. Seen a couple others following this trend like Doom Dark Ages

Looks like souls combat, dunno if there's stats but I assume so
Edit: It appears to be more like DMC's action combat.

Microsoft knows for a fact that Gamepass cannibalizes sales, so they might as well squeeze the buypigs for all they're worth.

But that's not how it works, the higher you price your product the less copies you're going to sell. Video games inherently have perfectly elastic supply, meaning you want to find the price that maximizes the amount of copies sold.Roguey wrote: ↑ July 9th, 2025, 01:26so they might as well squeeze the buypigs for all they're worth.
Bumping the price to $80 is something you might do if you're trying to get people to buy gamepass subs to boost the numbers for various reasons
[edit]
Modern video games have perfectly elastic supply. This was actually a major issue back during e.g., video game crash, when you had to actually manage physical units.

It's very likely that the people who would even consider paying $70 for it instead of just renting gamepass for a month would also pay $80.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ July 9th, 2025, 01:28But that's not how it works, the higher you price your product the less copies you're going to sell. Additionally, they're following Big Tendy's lead. They started charging $80 for Switch 2 games, so now everyone else will too.
This might just be me, but I don’t think the latest Mario Kart game should cost $80. At best it looks like a $50 game considering the graphics fidelity. But tendies gonna tendie, I guess.Roguey wrote: ↑ July 9th, 2025, 01:34It's very likely that the people who would even consider paying $70 for it instead of just renting gamepass for a month would also pay $80.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ July 9th, 2025, 01:28But that's not how it works, the higher you price your product the less copies you're going to sell. Ah, funnel the masses to the only product you plan on maintaining. Smart.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ July 9th, 2025, 00:59Is it a ploy to try to sell gamepass subscriptions? They recently stated that it's not doing anywhere near as well as they led the public to believe.
Their only competent team is working on Mass Effect 4. The massive delays are because that team gets parachuted in to 'save' other launches.psychic_dream wrote: ↑ July 9th, 2025, 02:10I believe a third party studio is developing a remake for The Witcher 1. Has there been any solid confirmation that Mass Effect 4 is actually in the works?

As mentioned in the previous thread, OwlCat has Dark Heresy and The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, Larian has announced they are planning to do another big RPG after two smaller projects.
CDPR has Project Hadar, whatever that is, as well as the Witcher 1 remake if that counts.
That's all I can think of. Pretty slim pickings all things considered, especially when you figure out how many of these will be woke trash made for no real audience.
Everyone hopes it died.
