Remakes - How should they be?

There were all right enough 2D games with RPG elements, they just didn't call them RPGs. On the NES, Zelda 2 and Castlevania 2 (though I didn't like either of these) among others. PSX had Symphony of the Night followed by a number of other Igavanias.Autorapist wrote: β July 3rd, 2025, 23:42It 100% is down to technical limitations. The three biggest things that separate modern ARPGs from old 2D ARPGs are 360-degree movement, camera rotation, and shitloads of particle effects.

Oh look it's a real time combat RPG from 1999.
If you mean a game more like Kingdom Hearts where it's more button mashy than Chrono Trigger exists as well as tons of other like Ys and Ultima Underworld. Diablo came out in 1996 and was kind of the grandfather of the ARPG.

Let me guess, you're in your late 30s or early 40s, you were raised on Squaresoft and Interplay, and you assume college kids grew up with the N64 and not the Wii.methoxetamine wrote: β July 3rd, 2025, 23:56You must be at least 18 years old to post hereAutorapist wrote: β July 3rd, 2025, 23:32Was the combat fun, though? An autorapist is someone who forces himself under sexual stimulation against his own will - in other words, a porn addict.

It's probably another academic gathering "information" to see how mean people on the HQ are.
Also, as for how remakes should be handled, they should all be of the same caliber as the Streets of Rage Remake by Bombergames. But only dedicated coding nerd fans can spend the time making such things and they're the only ones autistic enough to make sure it all works as intended instead of making a half-assed pile of **** designed to sell on franchise names.
Remakes simply should not be. Patch the old game to support modern systems, widescreen, whatever, and leave it at that. "But then le hecking modern audiencerinoos won't experience le hecking wholesome kinoos!" Good.
Remakes are the epitome of the absolute lack of creativity, talent and skill in the modern video-game industry. Anyone who actually looks forward to, and advocates for them is a ******** ******.Element wrote: β July 4th, 2025, 10:25Remakes simply should not be.
