A long time ago I read Vladimir Tismăneanu's "On Communism: The Fate of a Political Religion" and it's possible to draw parallels between "classic" communist spirituality and woke spirituality, the later being much more refined than the former. The woke creed's informality is its main strength and allows it to infiltrate and corrupt every other religion, major or minor. From "female Pastors" to "liberal Catholics" with pride flags at the altar and "proud atheists", in the end they all end up serving the same cause.

To be fair, it would be perfectly valid and historical to have black pirates, since pirates would often pillage slave ships and recruit the cargo as pirates. You didn't really hear bitching and moaning about Adewale in that Assassin's Creed pirate game because he was a historically plausible character and a returning cast member.

That they have to make a SCENE about it bodes ill for the game, though. It suggests they are pushing for forced DEI rather than historical representation, which means the game will flop.
