3DS is the best handheld for JRPGchads. I got one a couple months ago and regret not getting it ages ago. I have no interest in a handheld the size of a pc handheld or even a Switch. It's actually sad that true handheld gaming is dead due to the Switch and smartphones. Why would I ever want the same experience I can get on my PC except 10x worse?

I don't play video games outside of my house whatsoever though
Let's be factual for a sec. 3DS is an Atlus machine and has hardly any different jRPGs available, unless you're into Stella Glow, or 7th Dragon.
Correct.

I did not mention Pokemon or Bravely Default or Alliance Alive for the same reason, I don't think they're very good. Especially the 3ds exclusive Pokemon like Omega Ruby are just not engaging at all, I think the last entry I've enjoyed was Pokemon White.

Yeah Pokemon is... pokemon, there's not much to it. Last one of those I finished was Platinum.
But I've heard people praise Bravely Default a lot more often than Stella Glow, so that's a surprising take. Not that I've touched either of them

If you are thinking about a DS I would recommend a DSi. Slightly bigger screen, can play all the titles (including DSi gimmicks involving the mic and camera), and it has a software jailbreak.

Also agree that many of the best games will actually be GBA, but it plays those too.

As for recommendations, I have fond memories of FFTA2, Layton, Puzzle Quest, Advance Wars, and if you've never played games based around stylus input that could be novel too.

That's fine, I mainly got it for the Atlus games and there's a ton of them. It also has access to the DS library and all emulators up to some PS1 games

Also what's wrong with Stella Glow? I installed it but I don't know much about it

I'm about 20 hours into BD now and I think it's pretty good. Really fun job system

You need a very high IQ to understand this joke.
