He's arguing that colonial America is not American history because America didn't exist yet because direct continuity is apparently too difficult to grasp.Kalarion wrote: β June 6th, 2025, 14:59I figured he was mocking the ****** WE WUZ AMERICA movement.Tangerine wrote: β June 5th, 2025, 21:18You're being a Redditor right now. I had actually kekd a bit about Memphis's being aggroing on the statement that there was no nation before independence war and early American history is unremarkable. And ultimately we all did come from Sub-Saharan Africa.Kalarion wrote: β June 6th, 2025, 14:59I figured he was mocking the ****** WE WUZ AMERICA movement.
Seriously, US is a great nation. It has both mediocre and cool points in its history like any great nation has. I think that there's no reason to reinterpret former as latter.

Crusader Kings 2 had a total conversion mod that took place in the post-apocalyptic America. It was called After the End. I'm not sure if it's up to date, though.
It's a pretty cool sandbox.

"Oh, it all makes sense now, brother."
Isn't the mod incredibly woke, with a Gary Stu brown self-insert and the devs deliberately avoiding making a White faction?logincrash wrote: β June 7th, 2025, 09:11Crusader Kings 2 had a total conversion mod that took place in the post-apocalyptic America. I wouldn't know. The last time I played it was years ago and I just made a White Texan and waged total war on California.gerey wrote: β June 7th, 2025, 10:04Isn't the mod incredibly woke, with a Gary Stu brown self-insert and the devs deliberately avoiding making a White faction?logincrash wrote: β June 7th, 2025, 09:11Crusader Kings 2 had a total conversion mod that took place in the post-apocalyptic America. The only thing that genuinely aggros me is when people put words in my mouth or seem to be continuously twisting what i say.DemoGraph wrote: β June 6th, 2025, 15:31I had actually kekd a bit about Memphis's being aggroing on the statement that there was no nation before independence war and early American history is unremarkable. If you REALLY want to equate the examples i've given (pre usa settlers and people->usa or charlemage->france) with a retort of how everything is a continuation of history from ghanian tribal gatherers (assuming out of africa theory is true, i don't believe it personally) as a sort of reductio ad absurdum to completely dismiss what i'm trying to say with a strawman you can more easily attack and mock then that is on you but i will maintain i have never made this particular claim as the difference in scope both in terms of timespan and geography is obviously much greater and at this point you'd be arguing for just one universal human history and whilst i could see that potentially being a thing many thousands of years from now if our descendants on some far flung space colony studies "earth history" as one big consecutive narrative, it wasn't what i was trying to represent here.
If you feel i came on too strongly though, i sincerely apologise, it is not my intent to rile people up and sometimes when trying to argue with people in a friendly way about something i have some passion for then i guess i'm just autistic or something, i tried to argue for how i see things but clearly i have failed in my intent here if you came off walking away feeling that i was being too aggressive whilst i feel you misinterpreted me in a desingenious way, clearly none of us walked away happy here.

If we're going the route of althist, there's a pretty kewl Vicky 2 mod called Divergencies. It features Chinese colonies on the West coast (IIRC from Zheng He's fleet) and French-Dutch-Swedish clusterfuck on the East coast. Also, Indians have a small chance to modernize since bigboy infighting sometimes creates enough power vacuum for them to profit of without being genocided.logincrash wrote: β June 7th, 2025, 09:11Crusader Kings 2 had a total conversion mod that took place in the post-apocalyptic America. The mod is not finished, but it provides enough variety and challenge in NAm for at least 40-50 years.
I find that reductio ad absurdum is a useful thinking tool.
If you're going to count colonization history as part of the history of USA, you should also look at WW1 as part of the history of the 3rd Reich.
Yes, "what would Hitler do" is also a useful thinking tool.

Yes? Why wouldn't you? It's recent and direct continuity. This is hardly reductio ad absurdum.DemoGraph wrote: β June 7th, 2025, 13:09you should also look at WW1 as part of the history of the 3rd Reich.
I do view ww1 as part of the history of the 3rd Reich so yeah we really just do perceive things differently.DemoGraph wrote: β June 7th, 2025, 13:09I find that reductio ad absurdum is a useful thinking tool.

Reductio ad absurdum like any tool is neutral, depends how you use it but in this case i felt it was only used insincerely to make up an example that is more risible to the general audience then any of the ones i actually gave. BUT that might be me being oversensitive in all fairness since the ww1->reich example is something i would actually use and falls perfectly with the other examples i did give so ok, you actually do understand what i'm trying to say after all and just think it's all bs.
That's fair and my attempts at convincing you otherwise failed, i can take the L on that.
