That seems quite a lot different from "dumping everything and starting over".Roguey wrote: ↑ September 3rd, 2023, 21:41In this very thread I posted "The Chinese Room has kept Bloodlines 2's initial planned setting of Seattle, and while Greaney noted that they "have been able to reuse a significant amount of art and level design" from Hardsuit's project, Skidmore was quick to clarify that The Chinese Room is using "a new code base with different gameplay mechanics and RPG systems."" And from https://screenrant.com/vampire-masquera ... interview/ there's "It's very much our vision. I've been on the project a year, but when The Chinese Room took it over in 2021, we did for our vision sort of start from scratch. So it is a new codebase, a new world, a new story, because we're a different developer, and we're building to our strengths and what we see as that fateful translation of VTM. But the things that have continued over from the Hardsuit Labs version is quite a lot of character art and environment art, especially since we chose to also base it in Seattle, because that gave us a big leg up."Atlantico wrote: ↑ September 3rd, 2023, 19:52I don't see anything about dumping everything and starting over completely. Nor do the previews we have of the Chinese Room version really support that idea. I'm not saying that's not what happened, I'm saying I see nothing to indicate that it happened. It's still set in Seattle, by the snow in the most recent trailer it's set around Christmas time... seems to me there are more than a few things that were not "dumped and started over"![]()

yeah that's the problem - they were too great, and because of that they stood out like a sore thumb. LA Noire's facial capture was way more precise than other techniques, including the modern ones (its animations are actually better than ones in Uncharted 4 or TLOU2). So we have a game with photorealistic faces, highly realistic animations, and 2010-tier graphics for everything else.aweigh wrote: ↑ September 3rd, 2023, 18:00Am I the only one who thinks the LA Noir faces looked great? I always see people ******** on them but they looked good-to-great to me, especially for the time.
Swen was previously bragging about doing mocap for 100% of the cutscenes and dialogues in the game. His mocap was way cheaper because they built their own capture studios instead of contracting the existing ones.aweigh wrote: ↑ September 3rd, 2023, 18:00I imagine the cost alone is enough to dissuade people from using it. Guerilla Games was talking about how every single NPC in Horizon: Forbidden West is mo-capped and how that's unprecedented for a game of that size, and their budget was between $250-300 million (that we know of, probably more. This came out during the Acti-Blizz merger trial.)

Time is not the concern, money is. Paradox has flushed quite a bit of money down the drain already. Chinese Room is there to take that jank and make a game out of it to make money.Roguey wrote: ↑ September 3rd, 2023, 15:45Development time in total will be more than three and a half years. Paradox has already wasted almost a decade on this game and has nothing to show for it. Starting development of a new game from scratch is not in the cards.
mass media is their most powerful weapon, they will use it to full potential regarding the cost.

Yeah but Swen kinda cheated there because he isn't counting all of the dialog scenes as "cutscenes". At least I don't think the shot/reverse shot dialog interactions are mocapped, they don't seem so. Good marketing regardless, normies eat that **** up, like saying "every line is voice acted".wndrbr wrote: ↑ September 4th, 2023, 01:17Swen was previously bragging about doing mocap for 100% of the cutscenes and dialogues in the game. So, let me get this straight. Paradox hands over a cult classic IP that had everyone in gaming abuzz with excitement for a sequel - either because they played the game or, in most cases, because they had heard about Bloodlines 1 via word of mouth - to a bunch of ********, woke shovelware devs that have no ******* clue what they're doing.
They, predictably, **** things up to such a degree that Paradox has to step in and kill the project like you'd kill a mulatto baby just out of the womb, and their next bright idea after this fiasco is to hand over the cult classis IP to another ********, woke dev?
Even worse, the dev in question has never actually made a game with gameplay in it, and had gotten rid of all their workers because they had no more money to pay them, so why even bother with Chinese Room? They have no actual name recognition, they're not popular, they're not known for having made anything worthwhile.
The dev is just a skinsuit being worn by the rejected detritus of other fuckup devs like BioWare or Obsidian.
tl;dr game is DOA

Are they called Chinese room because they want to avoid the stink of Western game developers? I got excited for a moment that a based (if buggy...heh) game was going to come out of China. Nope its the UK, meaning you are just some gay black females lapdog. If they at least went all in on vampire power fantasy like Vampyr did then it could makeup for a **** story, but I doubt they will. If its based off a tabletop RPG then it will be "balanced" to boring and back.
It's the name of a thought experiment by the cancelled philosophy professor John Searle.

Video games are deemed degenerate in China. Responsible adults aren't supposed to play video games.

Sumo Digital paid millions for the The Chinese Room brand name (and Dan Pinchbeck who's already left), so it's worth that much to Britbongs. They want it to be the Naughty Dog of the UK so they've been staffing up for that.gerey wrote: ↑ September 6th, 2023, 14:36So, let me get this straight. Britbongs pay millions daily to house Albanians in 5-star hotels, free phone, wi-fi and allowance included. I don't think bongs are good judges on the worth of things.

This is definitely a situation where the suites up top are ****** about how much time/money is being sunk into this and tossed it to a shell of a developer who hell or highwater will force it out the door at a deadline given. Not that this will absolve the devs whenever it ends up being a massive pile of caca, great games have been made under similar ****** conditions it's just back then people got jobs based on their ability to perform and not ESG/giving handies.
I'm just stating the facts.

what's the deal with ***** names in particular? It's not so difficult with any other language.

Also, no consistent pronunciation, making the entire name into a symbol. (Have personally met people who use ji, x, xi, ch to represent the same sound in their names.)
