Gamergate went to **** when it stopped focusing on letting everyone know Zoe Quinn is a ***** and turned into a bunch of redditors parroting "ethics in game journalism" like the cretins they are.
It was hilarious in 2016 seeing all the ethicscucks go all in the tank for Hillary and the media despite their previous claims of wanting ethical journalism.

The hobby used to gatekeep itself pretty well. Women who enjoy the challenge inherent to video games are vanishingly rare. With the exception of dollhouse simulators, they just had no interest, which is why the invaders pushed walking simulators. They also made it taboo to mock people for their lack of skill, which previously helped keep the attention whores at bay. Even if some "gamer girl" had an army of simps, her ego would be bruised every time she was forced to actually play a game.

I guess gatekeeping became more intentional ever since they removed the requirement that you have to actually like games.

Gamer Gate? Ah, yes, Gamer Gate. I once knew a girl who lived on Gamer Gate.

Long time ago, when I was a young man. Not a day passes I don't think of of her and the promise that I made which I will always keep.

That one perfect day on Gamer Gate. That's uh, five blocks up, two over.
Beautiful.

It was less about proactive gatekeeping, and more the fact that the perception of (most) games, until around the mid-00s, was that they were either for children or losers. The bar for entry was also much higher in the past, especially if you wanted to play a game online.

Realistically, this applied to all the nerdy hobbies out there - instead of keeping the freaks out they welcomed them in, thinking of them as fellow outcasts, only to soon find themselves saddled with a loud, hostile minority that kept demanding concession after concession because the hobby was too White, too male and too heterosexual.

Turns out not being a bigot leads to predictable consequences.

Though, with how big gaming is getting, the destruction of the hobby was inevitable - there's simply too much money to be made, doubly so now that other creative mediums are imploding. Gaming was just late to the pozz party, so there's still some life left in it, and even when they make everything else gay about a game, the gameplay aspect can still be enjoyed by the normies.

I do think they'll eventually ruin the gameplay aspect too. They've likely already started with cries to make games less difficult. In a few years we'll see articles making the case for "equity in gameplay", so every ******** mouthbreather and subhuman foid can "compete", and the companies will happily oblige because they think this will get them an even wider audience.

What is the "inheritance game genre"?
Also known as succession or bloodline games.
You play for a bit then you transfer control to the other player. You may switch after a period or when your "avatar" unit dies of w/e. People play differently, so it's interesting to see how your builds alter in other hands. You play together, but you don't compete.

It was popular for DF, Rimworld, some 4Xs.
With my wife we played X-COM (the original one, we alternated missions), Hollow Knight (she did levels, I did bosses) and some arcades.

This makes me think of a chore like sweeping the floor. One person spills crumbs everywhere and the other person comes along later to sweep it up. Repeat.

One of the few good things that came out of "Lowtax Suicide Forum That lost To 4Chan".
