Are you sure you aren't just ********? MMO cooldown rotation combat is nonsense. You press a button to swing your sword but it only hits that mob for 10% of its HP (why? You just slashed him! He should be barely standing!), but then you arbitrarily can't press that button again because it's on cooldown. So now you need to press this other button where your character swings his sword differently, and it hits the mob for 8% of his HP (???). But whoops! This wasn't actually the button you should have pressed! You should have pressed this other button that hits the mob for 9% of its HP, putting that button on cooldown, and then hit that 8% button! There is no way you could have known that due to the esoteric tooltip numbers. How are you supposed to know that one button that deals (67.1596% of Spell power) with an 11 second cooldown (how do you calculate your 4,713 haste stat modifier?) is better than the button that deals (107.1% of Attack power) on a 6 second cooldown? And you have three hotbars of these buttons. There is no way for a player to know which buttons they should be pressing in what order through what they experience in the game.buttfucker 3000 wrote: ↑ April 30th, 2025, 19:38So news just broke that Blizzard is implementing a built-in rotation helper and a "one button rotation" mode. And this doesn't just extend to button pushing, but to your character building as well. How are you supposed to know if crit is better than mastery (makes you deal more frost or holy damage) or versatility? They both make you do more damage, right? And then you have talents. About half of the post-DF talents are so useless they exist to troll players who don't know any better. And then there are trinkets or item effects and elixirs, and so on. There is a massive power disparity between people who pick up a class and push the buttons, stack the stats, and pick the talents that seem the most sensible, Versus players following an out of game guide. And the PUG community bases player performance over the top players who follow the out of game guides. Players who don't get kicked. The game never prepares you for this, never tells you that you are dealing on a fraction of the damage of other players or how to rectify this. And oftentimes, the highest DPS builds are the one you enjoy playing.
The basic ability combo button simplification was something GW2 and FF14's PvP was already doing, because again having to press 15 different buttons to swing your sword and they only hit the mob for 10% of its HP each is utter nonsense. All basic sword swing buttons should be simplified down to one button, and leave the other buttons for actually meaningful, different stuff like summoning a frost dragon airstrike or riding your divine steed or activating a shield.

Apparently some youtubers who went to PAX were asked by Blizzard to stick around for another day and check out their housing system and give some feedback. It sounds like the current state is pretty robust. So far it sounds like the only real limitations are that you can only make a room that is three stories tall (you can have multiple rooms but that is the largest size of one), and you cannot seamlessly walk in/out of the house from/into the neighborhood district. The devs said that they are going to add more neighborhood districts. Hopefully it doesn't take over a year to do so and we can get a lot more locations than just Durotar/Azshara and Elwyn Forest pretty soon. It is sad that Midnight might be at least another year off. Metzen at Blizzcon 2023 said that they wanted to get out WoW expansions sooner but we'll see if that actually happens.

I don't really understand why housing is something people think will make the game better. It's just something else to play dressup with. I think the main draw is players feeling like they 'won' by forcing it's creation. Given some time for the paint to dry, the same complaints levelled at Garrisons will be applicable to housing too.

housing is a complete non-feature unless it's actually something that integrates with the rest of the game
e.g., allow me to hire and assign NPCs to do stuff, have tasks, idk

I think housing would be cool if it was a goldsink where the richest players could bid for the random unused buildings in Stormwind, or customize the taverns with their guild logos + some decorations. Even something like customizing the name/appearance of the auctioneers.
I think you'd have to treat it as a management sim game like dungeon keeper or Anno to make it interesting.
They had 45 minute long videos thoroughly explaining their experiences and it how it compared to other games (namely FF14's housing).J1M wrote: ↑ May 25th, 2025, 21:33You should know better than to believe anything a YouTuber says after being shown a whiff of attention from a multinational corporation. Personally I would like to have my own custom private space I can choose to AFK at instead of Current Expansion City or two decade old Stormwind or 2010 Orgrimmar. (Inb4 "but you can just set your hearthstone anywhere!" but then you are in a dead forgotten social space that makes you feel sad, and it takes longer to get around). During MoP I had my hearthstone set to my farm at Halfhill so I would login/out there and commute to the Shrine for endgame activities, but I couldn't decorate it to how exactly I would have liked it. In FF14 I spend much of my time AFKing at my house (or at a city hub like Tulliyollal). And in GW2 I like using the beach at the Thousand Seas Pavilion lounge as my AFK spot. And in Lego Universe it was really fun to tour other people's builds, though that game allowed you to program your blocks to do stuff like creating elevators or minigames. FF14 has "venues" you can go up to and play fake blackjack with other players.J1M wrote: ↑ May 25th, 2025, 21:33I don't really understand why housing is something people think will make the game better
In typical Blizzard fashion, they've already managed to ignore one of the community's biggest requests with housing - choice of location. That's already a very bad sign.Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ May 15th, 2025, 19:13Apparently some youtubers who went to PAX were asked by Blizzard to stick around for another day and check out their housing system and give some feedback. To me being able to place your house anywhere in the currently existing open world (or even on certain prefabbed plots in game world) seemed like a suboptimal implementation. MMO housing plots require a lot of land (not just for the oversized house, but also so you can have a property you can put other stuff on like barns, trees, castle walls, etc). That means that for the devs to put down plots, they would have to clear hills and geometry for that plot. Most post-Vanilla landmasses are pretty compact in zone design, especially starting with WoD when the WoW zones became infamously claustrophobic until Dragonflight. There would be some quest area or mob den right in front of your house. The zones are just so densely packed with only a handful of exceptions like Vol'dun. But then having a bunch of random plots around would make it a hassle to find and visit other people's houses. Having neighborhoods where you have multiple player houses near each other helps make it easier to check out what other people are doing on their properties, but that would have an enormous land requirement that less than half a dozen open world zones currently in the game can fulfill, like Tanaris, Dragonblight, or Ohn'ahran Plains. Another issue with using the current open world zones is that people might feel attached story wise to old nations like Orgrimmar or Stormwind, but those zones look very old and lackluster.buttfucker 3000 wrote: ↑ May 25th, 2025, 22:41In typical Blizzard fashion, they've already managed to ignore one of the community's biggest requests with housing - choice of location. So creating new, instanced neighborhood zones made from the ground up to accommodate the sheer size required for housing, and taking old locations and remaking them at the current visual fidelity with modern techniques sounds great. To me, the real worry here is that the rate of output will be slow. We might be lucky to get 2 housing districts per year, if that, and maybe Blizzard will stop making them after a few years just like how they stopped making new battlegrounds after MoP. I am worried that they will just do housing districts for the absolute most popular zones like Nagrand, Grizzly Hills, or the Jade Forest. We might never get housing districts set in Townlongg Steppes, the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, Zuldazar, Bastion, Hallowfall, etc.

I just want a cute troll house in Zandalar
I hate the Antichrist!
I like the idea of removing redundant services in the capitals and replacing a district of each with a housing district AND allowing monthly bidding for primo house placement in any of the currently unused buildings. Including small farms and such in the world. They would be valuable just for being limited.
I would enjoy the 'gameplay' of knowing some people are burning WoW gold equivalent to a year's subscription each month just to have their house next to the gate.

Even in my rare stints into surv/crafting games, my bases are set up as function-first and never as a testament to my creativity. Housing and decorating a personal space have never appealed to me. So, you can multiply that sentiment 100x more when said housing is instanced. I understand why they used the "in case of emergency, break glass" on the housing feature, but I don't see it doing anything to move the needle save for a ton of "look at me", feature glazing videos that people put on YT.

Housing has always been a feature for the vocal minority, especially streamers etc., to show off now. It's not a real feature that actually adds anything to the game for me unless I'm furnishing a home for characters to actually live in, which could be neat mind you.
