The 3D WIP Models Thread

Post by NotAI »

I remember the Zbrush forums back circa 2010 were pretty dang fun to browse....why no such thread here... Post cool stuff.

Blender / Blockbench / Zbrush / Sketchup / etc :knight:

Anybody made anything cool low-poly? I personally never have yet; hired out for that, paradoxically! Will be rectifying this skills lapse in 2025 as a personal goal.

Adventurer's Guild

I remember on the polycount forums or something like that, there was a Bioware game fanart contest, and there was a submission (presumably for a Dragon Age title) of a photorealistic render of a respectable looking old knight commander or general. And then there were a couple really neat, unique aliens (presumably for the Mass Effect category). I will try finding them.

EDIT: it was a CGhub contest, but CGhub is gone and a lot of the pages aren't on Wayback Machine or Archive.fo . It took some searching. These are highest rez images I could find. A lot of these people don't have artstation pages.

Also thinking about a related theme, the most basic freeform character creation.

Thought about giving the player 1 minute to craft a character with just blocks placement, then auto-retopo, then project as a sprite for use in the actual game.
Looking at some apps that restrict the user to only blocks, my conclusion is nope.

1. Considered: Blocks only but also allowing cutting blocks so that two sides can be triangles and one side slanted? Then auto-retopo once. Automatically have slots for arm, leg, torso, head, and let user work on each in turn, then use same animation class for the whole. Probably still produces a meme game look?

2. Let user draw stick figures, then autofill?

3, ???

Spore, that ancient thing, was probably the only game that messed around with totally freeform characters that any player could make in a minute. Edit. You know what, just remembered, there was a japanese game, Jade Cocoon, also allowed freeform character creation.
