They need to fire their designers.rusty_shackleford wrote: β October 10th, 2024, 00:18The system of the game itself sucks. They took a mangled version of the tabletop system used by the Fantasy Flight Games 40k tabletop RPGs β Rogue Trader, Dark Heresy 1E/2E, Deathwatch, Black Crusade, Only War. But it's inspired. I saw someone compare it to the Sword Coast Legends game, and it's not the same. SCL is their own system with the trappings of D&D mechanics. This is heavily inspired by a blend of the actual tabletop games such that it could easily be translated to tabletop and labeled Rogue Trader 2E(I'm referring to the RPG line only for the pedantic.) But it's not as in-depth as any of the systems, which is strange because they previously did the pathfinder games, albeit not a full implementation but the pathfinder rules are ridiculous to begin with. If you're going to make a CRPG, then use a system that plays to the strength of having a computer rather than a bastardized, simplified version of something designed for play at a tabletop.
Leveling sucks. Especially at the start, you'll be getting a new level every fight and you have to level up your entire team, if you're new to the game that means pausing for 10-30 minutes after every fight. Holy **** this was a pants-on-head ******** decision.
Leveling sucks. Towards the end of the game, you'll have everything. Despite feeling overwhelmed with choice at the beginning, you'll have no choice towards the end and just pick whatever's available because it doesn't matter.
Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Having enough forethought to include auto-leveling options in their Pathfinder games but not their own system they made after the PFs.

Cheers mate. That's sad, but I guess that how things are these days. I do recon that they have been primarily spared via a virtue of being too niche. Pretty sure that mass appeal and popularity are directly correlated in the last few decades with the addition of degenerate sex stuff. Take warhammer, that seems to be lagging behind the process due to being mostly relegated to wargame nerds with a penchant for grimdark. But now it appears like the eye of modern audiences have turned towards it.UltraFan123 wrote: β May 20th, 2025, 10:40Pathfinder was always super woke from the start, ever since its publication in 2008.
Forgotten Realms too was always intended to be degenerate as per Ed Greenwood's own words, what we originally got during the earlier editions was a watered down Faerun with most of its sexual deviancy toned down. But I reckon that as of the modern day, the setting has become as degenerate as Greenwood always intended it to be, funnily enough.
As for the other DnD settings like Eberron, Dark Sun, Greyhawk, Dragonlance, Spelljammer, and the like, I think those were - and.still are - mostly free of sexual degeneracy afaik. If anything, the fact that they never got as popular as Forgotten Realms may have been what ultimately spared them from the woke corruption.
That said I barely interacted with all of the above growing up, only familiarizing myself with D&D and similar games around my late teens, and primarily in the form of BG1 and 2, some NVN - so mostly video game adaptations. So I'm not too well informed about how things were on the tabletop side, or culturally, since I haven't been paying attention to that sort of thing back then. At the time it was neat, cool systems with lots of crunchy stats and character builds, where you get to kill some undead, evil wizards, demons, and so on. I think I've played my first tabletop campaign around late 20s, and didn't really like it enough to play beyond a dozen sessions.
I like sugar, and I like tea.
That said, how do yall feel about the announcement of Dark Heresy?
I'm not very interested to be honest, rather underwhelmed in fact. The roster from promotional video I already don't like either. 2 xenos and a black woman? A suspiciously skinny Cathachen (or at least it seems implied?) guardsman? What are the odds he's some sort of twink?
I'm yet to finish rogue trader, and I don't think I will after all, so it ain't looking good for the Dark Heresy.

Probably because nobody used their auto-levelling option since you were not allowed to tweak it without permanently switching to custom character mode. And most importantly, the characters created via auto-levelling were sub-par.Roguey wrote: β May 22nd, 2025, 20:49Having enough forethought to include auto-leveling options in their Pathfinder games but not their own system they made after the PFs.
Auto-leveled companions was the default for normal, so I'm sure it's perfectly doable there considering they tested the game themselves.J1M wrote: β May 23rd, 2025, 14:29Probably because nobody used their auto-levelling option since you were not allowed to tweak it without permanently switching to custom character mode. My feelings are the same as well. I hopping they will address certain problems that have been plaguing Owlcat for each of their games like buggy releases, rush half baked final acts and woeful lack of portraits for important NPCβs.mercerxiv wrote: β May 23rd, 2025, 14:18That said, how do yall feel about the announcement of Dark Heresy?

Games with Sheboons as PCs are not worth your time, and certainly not your money.mercerxiv wrote: β May 23rd, 2025, 14:18That said, how do yall feel about the announcement of Dark Heresy?

"Yeah, we know this is crap, but technically you can finish the game with it, so that's good enough to ship."Roguey wrote: β May 23rd, 2025, 14:34Auto-leveled companions was the default for normal, so I'm sure it's perfectly doable there considering they tested the game themselves.J1M wrote: β May 23rd, 2025, 14:29Probably because nobody used their auto-levelling option since you were not allowed to tweak it without permanently switching to custom character mode. Spoken like a true game developer.
What they should be thinking is:
"Here's a really cool character concept that you might not have thought of that is also highly effective."
or
"Here is a classic archetype built with some of what we as designers know about the later parts of the game. AKA we gave your martial characters blind fight because we know it will be mandatory later and you as a player opting for premade characters certainly don't have the system mastery to abandon a premade character and select that."
Instead, the mercenaries you can recruit get a point buy of 20 (even though your main character gets 25) and somehow these custom-built mercs end up more effective than a premade companion starting with stats equal to a point buy of 35.

Why would I ever depict something I don't actually support?
The intended fun of WH40k was in pretending to be ********.The civil war within the human Imperium would set the scene for 40kβs entire backstory, and the Space Marines would become the most recognisable figures in its fictional universe. But while recent editions of the game have cast them in a heroic light, Priestley argued that Games Workshop had misinterpreted the intent behind the characters.
βTo me the background to 40K was always intended to be ironic,β he said.
βThe fact that the Space Marines were lauded as heroes within Games Workshop always amused me, because theyβre brutal, but theyβre also completely self-deceiving. The whole idea of the Emperor is that you donβt know whether heβs alive or dead. The whole Imperium might be running on superstition. Thereβs no guarantee that the Emperor is anything other than a corpse with a residual mental ability to direct spacecraft.
βItβs got some parallels with religious beliefs and principles, and I think a lot of that got missed and overwritten.β
They just stole their ideas from a superior right-wing American, why do I care about their opinion?
libs will be like "heh, right-wing people can't create art" then proceed to make absolutely nothing at all beyond derivative works of right-wing creators for 50 years straight when they have all the cultural power.
most successful game lately was either something based on gygax or heinlein or herbert or tolkien orβ¦

Wait, what about Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy then? And all those DLCs for Rogue Trader? Whith AAA in making WH future does not look that bright.
Can be something great like Machinations of the Space princess in CRPG form BUT I'm not optimistic.
They have multiple teams, their Pathfinder games were quite lucrative for them. I don't think this one will be in the Warhammer setting.PixiGreen wrote: β June 3rd, 2025, 00:08Wait, what about Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy then? And all those DLCs for Rogue Trader? So hope you are right! AAA takes a lot of resources, and not many companies can pull off many games at once. Even EA or Ubisoft constantly shuffles people between teams. Can Owlcats do better?Roguey wrote: β June 3rd, 2025, 01:23They have multiple teams, their Pathfinder games were quite lucrative for them. The teaser website for the their next game is up. Just a reminder that current speculation is it’s a AAA highly cinematic sc-fi game based upon an established IP using Unreal Engine 5.
Guess for IP that game is based on
- Stargate
- Battlestar Galactica
- The Expanse
- Traveller
- Star Trek
Have major concerns that Owlcat is overextending themselves

I know that they sold decently but I find it out odd how Owlcat are able to do multiple projects including a AAA game that has a team size being more than larian studies that sells 1/10 there games.Roguey wrote: β June 3rd, 2025, 01:23They have multiple teams, their Pathfinder games were quite lucrative for them. BG3 was made by a team of over 400. Owlcat is now also over 400, and given the Rogue Trader DLC and Dark Heresey, not all of them are working on this, so it's a bit less. Though likely a bit more than Avowed which I believe had a peak of more than 100 but fewer than 200.
Yet we're not gonna get the 40k equivalent of Baldur's Gate 3.Roguey wrote: β June 3rd, 2025, 11:46Owlcat is now also over 400, and given the Rogue Trader DLC and Dark Heresey, not all of them are working on this, so it's a bit less.
