Mass Effect series.
Am I crazy or did it seem like as the games went on Turians got a weirdly distracting artifical reverb added to their voices? Especially in 3.
I'm just stating the facts.

I'm pretty sure it was always altered in some way, they just made it sound way more obvious.Vergil wrote: ↑ April 1st, 2025, 23:33Am I crazy or did it seem like as the games went on Turians got a weirdly distracting artifical reverb added to their voices? Especially in 3.

Turians got that reverb added because Garrus sounded like that and they wanted them to sound "uniform" which is funny because Keener as I mention all the time doesn't even change his voice in any major way, it's his normal voice.Vergil wrote: ↑ April 1st, 2025, 23:33Am I crazy or did it seem like as the games went on Turians got a weirdly distracting artifical reverb added to their voices? The sequels did add the reverb to Turians, but they also removed the reverb from Krogans.Vergil wrote: ↑ April 1st, 2025, 23:33Am I crazy or did it seem like as the games went on Turians got a weirdly distracting artifical reverb added to their voices? Especially in 3.
"Oh, it all makes sense now, brother."
Bioware is hiring again! But not those they fired.
TLDR: Those they "let go" were the pure activists that the company did not know how to get rid of. As the statement says, there were "cultural differences making people incompatible with the ME team".
An interesting way to get rid of activism in videogames.

I doubt this will help much. They likely went from very hard left "suck my girly **** you ******** ****" to hard left - the game is still going to be full of mystery meat, ******* and homosexuals.
Probably. Even most likely. But one can hope. ME is BW's last franchise and last chance to make money and (maybe) live or lose again and (finally) die for good.gerey wrote: ↑ May 8th, 2025, 11:26I doubt this will help much. Should I go for the original Steam release or the remaster? Does the latter change the overall look of them? Are there any performance issues?

Just play the original. The "remaster" fucks up the lighting in the entirety of ME1 and does some environmental changes (like Eden Prime) that make no sense. Also, they made the eyes too wonky.psychic_dream wrote: ↑ May 8th, 2025, 18:14Should I go for the original Steam release or the remaster? Does the latter change the overall look of them? Not sure about performance of the re-release. The original still plays fine in my experience.
Oh, and they lost the code for one of the DLCs so you won't be able to get the swanky moon apartment.

Quite the optimist to assume a culture purge would go down in that direction in any corporate environment.PixiGreen wrote: ↑ May 8th, 2025, 11:05Bioware is hiring again! But not those they fired.

Wait, what moon apartment? I played the original and don't remember that. ME1?

OOOH no wonder I never saw it. I took one look at that dumb arena and said no all 3 times I went through ME 1.
All of this is fixable with mods. The first and third games are horribly unstable on modern hardware (at least on mine), with 3 not even having modern UI resolution support. A bunch of autists also completely reconstructed Pinnacle Station as an easily installed mod, but that DLC isn't very good regardless. Modding the LE is also not difficult.logincrash wrote: ↑ May 8th, 2025, 18:44Just play the original. They should call it PEAK station because it's the best part of ME1

Having to mod the "remaster" just so it would be on the same level as the original is a point against it. The performance issues seem to be on a PC-to-PC basis. And all the games support widescreen resolutions, unless you're talking about ultra-wide 21:9 ****.CornCake wrote: ↑ May 9th, 2025, 03:41All of this is fixable with mods. Yeah I had and still have (I think it was 2 monitors ago when I played ME123) an ultrawide as well. You had to play it centered in the screen. No big deal really. I tend to do that even with Skyrim even though you can do it in full screen mode just fine. The ultrawides are great for work but not so much for games anyway.logincrash wrote: ↑ May 9th, 2025, 04:20Having to mod the "remaster" just so it would be on the same level as the original is a point against it. The alternative is letting them create their own setting with their own ideas. Can you imagine what sort of horrors it would lead to?
Why did you watch an Indian woman talk about Mass Effect for 40 minutes?

I'm not trying to justify the issues with the remaster, just stating that mods fix them, and I would never suggest someone play these games vanilla regardless. With the resolution, I'm talking about the UI scaling, and how on 1440p and above it ends up very tiny as the games don't properly scale it in the originals. Plus, you can buy the entire LE for the same price as 1 of the games right now.logincrash wrote: ↑ May 9th, 2025, 04:20Having to mod the "remaster" just so it would be on the same level as the original is a point against it.
