They suck in 99% of the games I have seen. Sometimes the villains can be ok to nice but you can smell the pussy -smell nonetheless. That said, this elegance and often times luxury from elves fit nicely with females. I often hate them all, but some female elves have that extra spice you know ?

I find Tolkien elves interesting as an exploration of what would have happened had Adam's lifespan not been mercifully shortened. So now he is an immortal being doomed to live in a fallen world, doomed to see unending conflict and evil. Doomed to see his toil be in vain as his great works wither away into ruin and are forgotten. Hell. Eventually the elves fall into a kind of despair and just stop doing things and cling to what they have left, which makes them hesitant to fully commit against evil. The shorter lifespan humans however have far less to lose and are thus more able to do what the elves won't. They will not live long and can't enjoy their material attachments to things after death, so what you are left with are deeds winding up being more important.

Bastardized pop culture elves however are overall pretty disinteresting, mainly because the are written by secular authors who don't understand the point of what they were borrowing from.

In most fantasy cases you are correct. But then there are drow and the Markus Heitz books (Legends of the Älfar).

Which are pretty similar to drow but even more extreme (they build their cities from the bones of their enemies and use their blood to paint since a lot of them are artists aswell) and without their women ruling them there also no gods I think (even tho they had 2 rulers a man and woman which were apparently so beautiful they had to blind their servants or they would be driven mad, those also had funny little story in one of the books). They are really overpowered and also see everyone except themself as lesser and during one time of the day they only differentiate themself from "normal" elves when their eye iris turns black, cant remember anymore if it was night or day. Really good books and also some brutal stuff.

My main gripe with modern elves is that they have been way too "humanized" and made just as mundane as the average humie.

You see elves who are centuries or thousands of years old - and may even be epic mages capable of easily casting country-destroying spells for all anyone knows - walking around in random human settlements and nobody bats an eye.

And in fantasy anime it's even worse. A 300 years-old elf is basically just a 30 years-old human with pointy ears.

I have considered the idea of making elves great again - my MEGA movement - but my methods are unapologetically controversial. Like making elves so overwhelmingly superior to humans that they're not a viable option to pick for players, similar to how dragons are too overpowered to be playable.
