11 bit cancelled their unannounced game named Project 8 because the market for narrative-driven, story-rich games appeal is weaker.
If you read between lines the problem is that the budget for the game would been not cheap and be serval times higher then there usual line up (AA game). I’m guessing that this story focus game would been some movie slop walk simulator / action game ,so their were smart enough to cut their loses seeing it won’t be profitable when comparing to other games within similar genres .

Instead of watching some grifttube video, I just went directly to the source instead of listening to some loser explain these words at me https://ir.11bitstudios.com/en/news/11- ... project-8/
The issue was seven years and counting of dev hell with no end in sight and being in a genre that would not recoup those costs in a best-case scenario.Project 8 was one of 11 bit studios’ in-house projects, involving 37 team members as at 30 September 2024. Its development began as early as 2018, with total costs amounting to more than PLN 48.4 million by the end of September this year (representing the carrying amount of the related development work in progress).
Marszał acknowledged that shifting market trends were not the sole factor behind the project’s cancellation. “With Project 8, we experienced both breakthroughs and setbacks. During the COVID-19 pandemic, stabilising the development team proved particularly difficult, yet progress continued. While we achieved noticeable quality improvements in certain areas, several critical aspects of the game and its development process remained problematic despite multiple iterations. Over time, delays accumulated, and with each milestone, the project’s budget grew,” he explained.
The tipping point came after a thorough evaluation of Project 8’s most recent milestone. “When assessing a project, the Management Board always considers its development progress, including internal reviews and independent surveys. We also factor in market analyses and the game’s sales and marketing potential,” said Marszał. “Unfortunately, in this case, our findings revealed unresolved issues and challenges that would require further extensions of the production timeline and corresponding budget increases to address. This, coupled with revised sales forecasts, largely reflecting the changing market environment, raised significant doubts about the project’s overall profitability,” stated Marszał. He also added that, in light of these developments, the Management Board of 11 bit studios lost confidence in completing Project 8 within a reasonable timeframe and at a satisfactory quality level, which ultimately led to the decision to terminate the project.

I've recently tried to play Dark Souls 1 after a year-long hiatus. It was an exercise in frustration.
I had an old save, a midleveled hybrid (CL ~40, zweihander, fast roll, some fire spells - pretty vanilla), Anor Londo pre O&S. I forgot almost everything. Some things I've recalled, but I still can't recall how to run (there's no dedicated button for it in controls).
Silver knights were both easy and hard. When I've outreached them with zwei, they fell in ~3 hits. But if I made a mistake, they often did a series that instakilled me, because each hit stunlocked (especially the spear ones).
I've tried switching to sword&board (still fastrolling, but 100% physical shield) and could block them for an almost indefinite time. But the damage drop was so large, that I needed 20+ hits to kill them.
In both cases flasks were useless until the end of combat (or unless I resorted to benny hill-style running), because enemy doesn't really create healing windows without cheesing the AI.
Magic in my case was utility grade at best (kiting, small pre-damage), WAD. Too few shots, too little damage per shot. Vancian magic at its finest.
OTOH, death in many cases wasn't an issue, because I often died near the bonfire, and death itself doesn't penalize you at all.
Thanks to those silver knights and fatboys before O&S I've recalled why I've dropped the series forever. It's too gamey and "unrealistic".
Hitboxes and damage areas are all over the place. The most ridiculous moment was when fatboy (slow armored giant) slammed the floor with his shield, missed me but I got damaged by a dust cloud from the slam.
You can't get too close to the enemy (e.g. under the spear reach), so short weapons are useless.
You can hit an enemy for a full damage or, if you miss a few millimeters, for 1-2% of damage. There's nothing in between. You either parry 100% or 0%. Sword&board is useless.
Rolling gives damage immunity. You can roll with a bow or staff on your back. Glass cannon rolling is the only viable strategy.
Stamina limits how much stuff you can wear. But you have a limitless inventory.
The map is really empty, the levels are tiny and there's no level interactivity. I remember first areas having some charm. But Anor Londo is just an empty room upon an empty room.

yeah i think they cancelled it because it was gay, and they realized that the gay game is not going to sell all that well.

Finishing with Dark Souls.
I went and killed O&S to close the gestalt. Yeah, I'm definitely not in a good state of mind.
The bad game remained bad. The larger the enemy, the faster it moves, the more "complex" its moveset, the more problems can be seen with basic mechanics - hitboxes and gimmicky attacks.
Human-sized undead look believable enough - yes, they're clumsy, they're brainless after all. Giant golems are a bit more obvious but can also be handwaved as clumsy asses. Capra and that other bull demon hide behind tight maneuver space. Discharge and spider girl are nonhumanoid, so aren't obvious as well. But enemies in Anor Londo are practically designed to show you mechanical deficiencies. Both Smough and Giga-Orstein are very obvious and very dumb.
Come to think of it, the prison boss was already telling. Sniffing his *** for dead zones was peak console design. Or that dragon - "shoot him with arrows until his tail falls off, kek". Looking back, I should've dropped the game at that moment and just go watch LPs for the worldbuilding.
Also I still have no idea how to run. And I was too lazy to start a new game just to look for the "tip".

You'd think that these text-heavy, narrative driven games would be a lot cheaper to make than the usual slop, but then I guess you can't just outsource decent writing...Unhelpful Contrarian wrote: ↑ April 26th, 2025, 23:25TLDR

True but its somewhat historically accurate. Arabs liked to castrate their slaves. But ye the only white dude unit they added is a ******* castrate. If female units are something op and you have to spam them something like in BF 1 german snipers were negroids then its intentional, and they are scum. But to me, it seems like ou these fucks like this game, lets screw them. Its popular by Europeans especially Germans and these ***** hate themselves and what they hate even more is their countrymen being better than them.sheet wrote: ↑ April 30th, 2025, 11:37

Also, a ******* swordsmen did lose their Power Stance and now they move like they **** themselves. Instead, looking like a mad man that is prepared to stomp his enemies. I hate those kind of changes like in Rome 1 Total War where pretty much all units walked up right, wide shoulders and in remaster they made them looking weak thinner arms, legs etc. *******, these scum hate healthy and strong. They want to turn into weak, bring everything down.

Looks like slop's still on the menu, boys. And in Gaming, revenue increased 5% and 6% in constant currency. Xbox content and services revenue increased 8% and 9% in constant currency, ahead of expectations driven by stronger-than-expected performance in third-party and first-party content.

Game "journalism" not adapting to the rise of game streaming was always going to end up killing it, just like how VHS stores fell off after the rise of the digital age.
I've been playing Left 4 Dead 2 recently, It's a great game just a shame it's so dead nowadays, clicking Quick Match is just a minefield of chinese servers.

Of course I know it's not a serious lore video but this video doesn't even work as a proper advertisement for the game itself. I would have assumed this was a video of a random ASMR streamer thot if it wasn't for the game information that popped up in the end. Even those old video game TV commercials that had super cheesy acting at least had the decency to show clips of exciting in-game footage at the middle/end to give you an idea of what the game was about and what they were trying to sell you.
