Skyim has a sidequest where you humiliate a woman by slut shaming her and that's the only option you're given to resolve it. You're reading way too much into that gender distribution stuff.The_Mask wrote: ↑ November 26th, 2024, 02:27Count how many women are housecarls and/or jarls. female warriors was considered innocuous because it was normalized, this is something the overton window is shifting on.

Remember when Bethesda, the guys who make a fantasy series with 10 playable races, made a space game with only humans? lmao

Remember how the head writer and quest designer of Bethesda stated that gamers shouldn't expect RPG mechanics and quest designs like in Baldur's Gate 3 and that the more linear and less player choice in a RPG the better it is? To think that this ****** has failed upward as he has.

The starship building part is the only good part and even then it's gimped. The writing is awful all around. The gameplay is pure slop. Just a ton of ******** with no substance.

Still don't understand the complaint about planets being empty. What were people expecting? It's basically an evolution of what you see in Mass Effect.
It's definitely not why the game failed, the game failed because it sucks. The story sucks, the companions suck, the ""cities"" suck, the quests suck, the shipbuilding sucks, so on and so forth.
I just don't get what players wanted to actually be on planets. Do normgroids really have such a hard time accepting that the galaxy is full of barren rock planets?

There's nothing in fields, forests, caves, lakes, or oceans IRL either but I expect them to have content when I explore them in a video game.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ May 5th, 2025, 08:04I just don't get what players wanted to actually be on planets. Wasn't KCD one of your favorite games until recently? The entire game is just empty.Oyster Sauce wrote: ↑ May 5th, 2025, 08:06There's nothing in fields, forests, caves, lakes, or oceans IRL either but I expect them to have content when I explore them in a video game.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ May 5th, 2025, 08:04I just don't get what players wanted to actually be on planets. The map of KCD consists of villages, towns and camps full of NPCs and quests, it's not a giant empty forest. Not in the mood for rustyposting so don't bother replying.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ May 5th, 2025, 08:08Wasn't KCD one of your favorite games until recently? If your argument is there should be a couple points of interest on each location that require careful searching to uncover, hidden xenos, etc., then yeah I'll agree they could have added more to them in that way. But fundamentally it wasn't the wrong choice.
If anything, seeing copypasted "points of interest" on planets made the experience far worse. It was like they were trying to throw a bone to people who wanted to play an amusement park simulator and it made it look stupid. "Oh, here's a little settlement with 4 people in the middle of ******* nowhere"

There's basically nothing outside of the towns. I spent a few hours just riding around trying to find interesting stuff back in ~January and ended up quitting because I was bored.Oyster Sauce wrote: ↑ May 5th, 2025, 08:13The map of KCD consists of villages, towns and camps full of NPCs and quests, it's not a giant empty forest. There are a few things. But you probably need that survival perk which shows all points of interest on the map, which turns it kinda in an Ubisoft game. There are still a few encounters and bandit camps which maybe have some interesting crafting materials or recipes tho even without that perk.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ May 5th, 2025, 08:15There's basically nothing outside of the towns. No, unfortunately, that's the problem with real life: When you go to those places, you DO find stuff there far too annoyingly often: Usually, it comes in the form of a "Private Property: No Trespassing" sign. It's **** HARD to find a field, forest, cave, or lake that doesn't already belong to SOMEBODY. In fact, there's only a few unclaimed spots left on Earth, and they're not terribly desirable places.Oyster Sauce wrote: ↑ May 5th, 2025, 08:06There's nothing in fields, forests, caves, lakes, or oceans IRL either but I expect them to have content when I explore them in a video game.
That's the problem. Not that we can't find content there, but that we can't make it OURS.

Mass Effect let you drive around in a bouncy Hot Wheels truck. Starfield made you hoof from one copypasted location to another copypasted location.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ May 5th, 2025, 08:04It's basically an evolution of what you see in Mass Effect.

I am genuinely surprised first Mass Effect didn't have some kind of Mako racing mini quests or DLCs.logincrash wrote: ↑ May 6th, 2025, 10:40Mass Effect let you drive around in a bouncy Hot Wheels truck. Oblivion was better than Starfield.
It has finally made people think about DECLINE, who usually wouldn't.
The beginning of something? No?

Nope. Aside from not being HERE, in the US, where there'd actually be anything to explore in the first place, it doesn't let you do anything there that would constitute content. You can merely wander through an unusable theme park. You don't get to collect any loot from it. Useless.
The advent of the Saar Wars will potentially disrupt the crucial supply chains necessary to sustain future Starfield development, and perhaps Elder Scrolls VI as well. Our Indian brothers were INSTRUMENTAL in the development of Starfield and it's assets. Without their assistance, how will Bethesda (and by extension Todd) survive?.
Exploring empty planets was a side activity on Mass Effect, while it was the main activity in Starfield. But I agree that the game failed because it simply sucks. Bethesda should have either focused on space nerd exploration and survivalism or going the space-fantasy route and just building ESVI an engaging gameplay loop+a handful of hand-crafted planets to showcase their systems, while leaving most procedurally generated planets as canvasses for future mod integration (even on consoles).rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ May 5th, 2025, 08:04Still don't understand the complaint about planets being empty. Pretty much. No one actually wants to explore the barren, lifeless surface of ProcGenSlop IV. You seen one ProcGenSlop planet, you seen 'em all. Other planets are only interesting when we can loot 'em or conquer 'em.Statesman wrote: ↑ May 12th, 2025, 03:20Exploring empty planets was a side activity on Mass Effect, while it was the main activity in Starfield. The point wasn't to explore them, it was for them to just be there. The problem is they made so little content actually worth exploring that people focus on the wrong issue.
