Since they've moved on wouldn't this be something they can't really do anything about and wotc are the ones to actually worry about?
WOTC is in such shambles with D&D right now I honestly don't think there's much concern. They've been siphoning money for a while on D&D and all of the major designers have gone or been pushed out. I really don't think they care about D&D anymore.

D&D has a lot of brand recognition but makes surprisingly little money. Adjusted for inflation, D&D was making way more under Gygax than it is now.

My completely unfounded guess: the issue Larian had with WotC was they wanted to renegotiate their contract because they likely licensed it at a flat fee rather than royalties, and it made significantly more than they ever thought it would.

We'll make as many githubs as we need under pseudonyms. and our .git folder is happily sitting on our hard drives.

I'd like to see modtroons spends hundreds of dollars on lawyers for that mod that made them $10 on nexus.

**** me. Forgotten Realms is not "medieval" by any stretch of the imagination.

The vast majority of Forgotten Realms, like most D&D settings, are actually a base level of the Iron Age, if not the Bronze Age, with anachronisms scattered around. Hell, the Underdark species are late Renaissance in terms of technological and cultural advancement, and there's scattered pockets of early-to-late medieval and early renaissance era cultures on the surface.
I like how he manages to contradict himself within two sentences.

Also, lol at "most D&D settings" being Iron Age or Bronze Age.
But if you're outside a major city, in some remote village somewhere, most likely your average peasant is living in the Iron Age.
Even a cursory glance at any of the Baldur's Gate games, or really, most D&D games in general, proves him wrong.

Even calling the Forgotten Realms "early renaissance" is underselling their level of technological advancement.
nor has there been a Holy Roman Empire intent on conquering and/or spreading and/or converting people to its state religion by force.
Oh, this is precious, he thinks the Holy Roman Empire is called holy because it waged crusaders to spread their state (?) religion.

He couldn't have picked a worse example of a country in Europe to use as an example of enforcer of state religion.
