Doesn't even look good tbh. Looks about as good as a high quality game around the time Skyrim released.
With worse optimization. The fact that this game was poorly optimized on PC compared to other AA or AAA games released the past few years really shows how this game really was just a quick cash garb for Bethesda and Microsoft to recoup the loses they had with Starfield. There is no good reason for the game to use over 16-32 GB of Ram to run. A quick side note is that Doom: The Dark Age also has nearly the same spec requirements as the Oblivion Remaster and both come from the same publisher. I think this really does show a decline of optimization on Bethesda's part.
Yea, unmodded: 124 GB of bloated textures and uncompressed audio. Modern 'optimization' is a joke
That's insane, they really did not bother at all. Guess they really needed that cash from the Todd-cows.

Leveling now gives fixed skill points after sleep (I think?)
That's an improvement. Oblivion's leveling system was terrible and encouraged non-intuitive builds to maximize attribute gains or minimizing/not-leveling at all after a certain point so that you don't end up in a situation where you're doing piddly damage against giant hp sacks. This solution applies balance while not discarding their goal of allowing any player to go wherever and do whatever quests they want without having to grind elsewhere first.
It is an improvement but apparently they still have leveled quest reward items. And from what I heard in videos they didnt do **** about the level scaling of mobs at all. Cant wait to run into ogre at lvl 50+ where one sword hit does 2% damage. I will probably just ignore them and cheese them with chamelon or invisibility if that is the case.

Yeah that's part of the the design goal of "allowing any player to go wherever and do whatever quests they want without having to grind elsewhere first." Can't have disproportionate rewards. Changing it would make it feel like a different game and they said they wanted it to still feel like Oblivion with a few tweaks.
The lesson here is simple: most modern remasters are cynical cash grabs banking on nostalgia, not meaningful improvements. We’ve seen it with Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy, Warcraft III: Reforged, Skyrim Anniversary Edition… the list goes on. And y’know what’s sad?
The success of Oblivion Remastered will only spawn more of these soulless husks—texture upscaling slapped onto spaghetti code, woke "patches" nobody asked for, and all the corporate greed of a $70 for a ******* remaster of old game.
But hey, what can we do? NPC's from steam and reddit keep buying slop, so they’ll keep serving it.

If they didn't change a **** thing, let me remind you: in the original Oblivion, any spellcrafting maniac could become an actual god. We’re talking 100% damage immunity, infinite mana, and literal ‘Avada Kedavra’ one-click nukes that deleted Master difficulty enemies. The jank was beautiful.

Huh? If leveled quest rewards are the same like in the original every veteran player will either powergrind to lvl 30 first before doing any mayor quests or they will wait for a mod to fix that which exists already. Imagine having a weak version of the shield of chorrol and missing out on damage reflect which was very limited in this game. But the most effective against the hp sponge enemies once you are higher level where even selfmade 100 destruction spells which cost like half your mana only ship away 25% of most normal enemies.

Like when is the last time you played a good remaster?
It is sad that a Spongebob game had more love and respect poured into its remaster than most other games that are remastered today.

I don't think I've ever seen a single one not be this actually. Like when is the last time you played a good remaster?
Halo 2 Remastered was pretty good
It is except they ****** with the soundtrack, sound effects, and those horrible indian tier chinkslop outsourced cutscenes instead of in engine with the new models.
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

Bethesda doesn't make games for hardcore gamers, so yeah you'll have to wait if/when someone tunes it to your liking.

They used too with the original team that did Arena & Daggerfall. Maybe with The Wayward Realms being developed by old team members of Bethesda that'll scratch their itch but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

If that was the case they would have introduced skyrim like level scaling. Where guards for example have a max level of 20 or 30 and dont level with you.

I thought the cutscenes were pretty epic, especially the one where MC delivers the Covenant back their bomb. I agree with the sfx though. They did the thing that a lot of modern games do and gave all the sound effects this weird "wet" sound.
And yeah, Halo 2's OST is goated so there's really no topping it.
On a serious note Vergil, how is the game running on your laptop? I have noticed that a lot of Bethesda made and published games are running on higher specs now. Even for minimum requirements. I have some suspicions as to why but I wanted to hear from someone who is playing the game on a lower end PC.

Truly atrocious. Without the .ini file I posted earlier with everything absolutely on the lowest settings with FSR on performance you'd be lucky to get 30fps in interiors and outside you might as well be playing the game via the image scroller on the store page.
With the the .ini file depending on weather and where you are outside you can get a "playable" 24-30fps in most locations. Interiors are fine for the most part and tend to stick around 60fps+ but that is with everything even lower than what the games settings allow (except textures on medium) plus FSR turned on.
I'm just stating the facts.

Also it seems they at least were wise with the DLC homes and didn't rape you to death with quests to get your free super house the moment the step outside. I had to actually walk up to Frostcrag Spire to get the quest and the front door had an average lock instead of a key being magically teleported into my prison pocket.
I'm just stating the facts.

The effects for when you collect ingredients is kinda weird. It has a cartoony "bounce" look to it and some things just straight up disappear after being collected instead of leaving behind remnants. Not really major but it is a little strange looking and caught me off guard when I started picking mushrooms in the tutorial cave.

Thank you! I have a sneaking suspicion that this game has an over reliance on DLSS. A lot of people who have played the game have talked about how the game feels like it was made with AI in some places and I suspect as much. Doom: The Dark Age, which comes out in a few weeks and is also published by Bethesda, also has a over reliance on DLSS and Ray Tracing. I recall Todd telling people who were unable to play Starfield on anything lower than a RTX 40 series card to; "Just get a better PC". I also suspect that Microsoft is also putting higher end specs on their PC releases in order to encourage people to go for a XBox alternative. "Unable to afford upgrading your PC to meet the minimum requirements? Just get the cheaper XBox alternative instead!"
That is just what I think. Feel free to call me out for being a ****** for having these suspicions.

Try focusing on the main quest only, easier to play this way. You can get more than enough of gold without even doing any side quest actually.
There are a a couple of parts where Cosades refuses to let you continue the main quest until you're at least level 4/6, so you do have to do some side content.
Late reply but you only need enough gold and trainers to level up and it's more convenient to just loot everything for gold likes a n- you are rather than doing side quests.
