I think the worst part about them is how petty they get over any perceived slight. They'll form little cliques and bizarre inner circles where any sort of deviation from whatever figure they're orbiting is taken as some sort of attack. People will be treated as though they deserve to die or have some really gay and dramatic damnatio memoriae done where any of their contributions will be scrubbed because they dared to bruise the ego of the wrong person. I've had more than one author tell me "well I'm not going to make the change you suggested, but I grant you permission to locally edit the mod files for your own personal use" with a completely straight face, as if I somehow needed their permission even to do that.
