Apparently I somehow overlooked a demo release of Metal Eden from the RUINER devs. Anyone tried it?

Idk if anyone here plays Tekken 8, but the last few days have been so gratifying watching the community have a meltdown after Namco released a patch that had even the most hardcore shills in shambles.

Even Harada, who usually acts like a complete egotistical **** has gone full radio-silent seeing how the community is tearing the game apart. Seriously, Harada and Kamiya are peak examples of old Japanese men huffing their own farts and whilst disregarding everyone else around them and treating them like idiots.

But all this is yet another reminder of how gamers enable this ****. Dissenting voices like FrameWhisperer were overlooked and shunned as people huffed copium and shills like that Swedish sub-human MainManSWE kept insisting the game was great and going to be fixed eventually. It only took a disastrous patch that dialled up the worst elements of the game and made every single character ******** as **** with ridiculously oppressive strings and attacks, for people to finally wake up.

Even ******* Reddit was in full salt mode, but obviously that wasn’t gonna last as now we have people already saying that the fans are being too harsh and concerns are being voiced about emotional fans going on a witch-hunt against tekken YouTubers who were positive about the game before like PhiDX.

Meanwhile, framewhisperer, the only one who actually spoke out against this **** since the launch of Tekken 8, made a small apology post to these *****. I ******* hate when people apologise for being honest and calling things as they are. But tis the times, I suppose. Where honesty is heavily discouraged and blind optimism or fence-sitting is encouraged.

**** that ***** Nakatsu and Murray too

Not thread related my apologies but related to my previous post of what can be found on that site before it gets removed.

I snatch these up when they pop up for a couple days before they get reported and taken down.
Fresh batch of 100 each from a couple months ago that I plaster everywhere together around where I live and where I travel for work. Lots still up from last year. Ready again for 2 months time.

Tried out Starbound to get some more of that Terraria experience.
What a piece of **** it is. Absolutely subpar compared to Terraria. Feels like a ****** UE5 assest-swap clone of some popular game, but in 2D.

Thought to myself "Hmm, I might be judging this game too harshly. Let's have another go at it."
Need some Core Fragments to progress the main quest. Dig down to the planet's core to finally find some. Dark as **** and a ****** flashlight isn't helping. A basic ***** lantern requires Oil that you can't find anywhere if you're not on a Desert planet. So, I crafted a thousand torches instead. Got the Core Fragments.
Anyways, proceed with the main quest. Get teleported to a space outpost. The outpost is 3-4 stories high. No ladders, but platforms masquerading as ladders. To go down the platform you have to hold down S and press Spacebar. Pretty normal, yeah? Right. Except you fall through every single platform if you still hold down S and let go of Spacebar. Absolutely backwards to how it should be. So, if you want to descend normally, you have to tap S+Spacebar for every single platform (of which there are multiple dozens) or else risk not letting go of the S button fast enough and smashing your ******* face on the floor. Infuriatingly ******** control scheme.
But, **** it, let's go finally repair the spaceship. Need to do some dungeon first. Arrive at the dungeon. It's a dark and spooky mine full of alien mutants. Ooh, the lights are flickering and you can't see ****! What do you mean you still have over 500 torches? You can't place those anywhere! What do you think this is, a crafting/building game that is all about shaping your environment with all the tools you've acquired specifically for the purpose of building and deconstructing the terrain? No, you can't mine through this little pile of rubble with you space-laser-pickaxe. Here's a ****** shotgun, time to play an awful platformer shooter.
**** STARBOUND ITS GAY AND LAME AND MY FIRST IMPRESSION WAS CORRECT

How are the Middle-earth titles made by Monolith? Are they fun? I'm surprised no one has made clones of this type of game yet, considering they were mega popular among normies when they came out.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment holds a patent and trademark for the "Nemesis System," which was developed by Monolith Productions for their Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War games. The patent, US Patent 10,926,179, was issued in February 2021 and is set to expire in 2035. This patent protects the Nemesis system's core mechanics, including nemesis characters, forts, social vendettas, followers, and Social Conquest battles,

It's close enough.

Ubisoft was never taken to court over it because…
Game mechanics are not covered by patents. Yes, you can get a patent for a game mechanic, but it will not actually hold up under scrutiny.

The idea that game developers/publishers would just let their ideas be ripped off if they could stop it while simultaneously constantly being called greedy and "capitalistic" is some incredible doublethink. If patents could be used for this, every mechanic you can think of would be patented.

More specifically, game mechanics are abstract ideas, and abstract ideas are not valid patent subject matter. Video game mechanics were a gray area until Alice, firmly putting an end to the discussion.

The reason the patent even exists in the first place is because its registration predates the Alice decision.

To be clear, the courts have repeatedly said that "innovations" in gaming are patentable… but they have never made clear what said "innovations" are! Basically every court decision of note related to this has said "no, this is not patentable". Nobody knows what an actually patentable game mechanic looks like because the courts won't tell anyone.

For a concrete example of just this happening:
In re Smith, 815 F.3d 816 (Fed. Cir. 2016) https://www.bitlaw.com/source/cases/patent/Smith.html
That is not to say that all inventions in the gaming arts would be foreclosed from patent protection under § 101. We could envisage, for example, claims directed to conducting a game using a new or original deck of cards potentially surviving step two of Alice.
Wow, that sounds great, they'd just need a new or original deck of cards!

In re Marco Guldenaar Holding B.V., 911 F.3d 1157 (Fed. Cir. 2018) https://www.cafc.uscourts.gov/opinions- ... 8-2018.pdf

Well, how about new or original set of dice?

1. A method of playing a dice game comprising:
providing a set of dice, the set of dice comprising a
first die, a second die, and a third die, wherein only a single face of the first die has a first die marking, wherein only two faces of the second die have
an identical second die marking, and wherein only
three faces of the third die have an identical third
die marking;
placing at least one wager on at least one of the
following: that the first die marking on the first
die will appear face up, that the second die marking on the second die will appear face up, that the
third die marking on the third die will appear face
up, or any combination thereof;

Lol, nope.
(Board) affirming the rejection of claims 1–3, 5, 7–14, 16–
18, and 23–30 of U.S. Patent Application No. 13/078,196
(the ’196 patent application) under 35 U.S.C. § 101 for
claiming patent-ineligible subject matter. Because the
claims are directed to the abstract idea of rules for playing a dice game and the only arguable inventive concept
relates to the dice markings, which constitute printed
matter, we affirm
And yes, they directly cite In re Smith.

The same thing they said would make something eligible was then found to not make it eligible. So what does?!

The truth is that you should just assume game mechanics aren't patentable because patents weren't designed to cover game mechanics. To quote Judge Mayer's opinion:
While games may enhance our leisure hours, they contribute nothing to the existing body of technological and scientific knowledge. They should therefore be deemed categorically ineligible for patent. See Ariosa Diagnostics, Inc. v. Sequenom, Inc., 809 F.3d 1282, 1289 (Fed. Cir. 2015) (Dyk, J., concurring in the denial of the petition for rehearing en banc) ("In my view, claims to business methods and other processes that merely organize human activity should not be patent eligible under any circumstances.").

The above reminds me of something LegalMindset explained when going into the patent issue with Palworld (I can't recall the details, but it was, in this case, the mechanic of throwing a spherical object or something of the sort. I think I recall there even was a patent on the mechanic where the player gets up in the morning).

reminds me of the Miraak follower mod
Can't believe nobody remade this one with nowadays AI tools. It's ******* sad, was my favorite mod back in the days. Then again, the amount of whores female cumpanions on Cucksus explains everything.
(moving this here as it might go off topic)
I made my own version of it multiple times (silent dialogue though) where I was messing around with random ambush encounters that would trigger on sleep etc. Was also changing every NPC in the game that would know of him to react to him (with ensuing need for persuasion to keep being welcome if the dialogue escalated etc). Might get to it one day again, but the Creation Kit crashing or the long dialogue branches ending up having a not working script after all I did, Force Greet not triggering and the whole tree branches of the dialogue having to be disentangled every opening of the Creation Kit made me just give up on it to focus on play pretend and console spawn enemies instead :? Deeply sad the majority of mods I saw that have anything similar do not seem to care for NPC reactions to the companions, location/player action reactions, world changing happenings to having someone like Miraak around, etc

WB makes a lot of stupid decisions and a lot of people are also risk-averse. They can stay stupid longer than a lot of people can stay solvent. Ubisoft could have tanked the court costs and legal fees (also the patent didn't apply until 2021, Odyssey was released in 2017) smaller devs, likely not.
