I think it's kind of neat that classes can matter to the point of having story ramifications even if they're a bit underdeveloped in DA2. It is a little funny too how it seems like there's a big Mages vs Templar (Warrior) dichotomy with the classes and then you have rogues who are just kinda there.

It's all connected. Dragon Age is downstream from Greenwood. Even so the first DA was rather decent due to the worldbuilding, which was fairly competently stolen inspired from other works.

There are two basic camps of roleplayers. Those who want to larp Lord of the Rings and those who want to roleplay their sexual fantasies. Never shall the twain meet.

Nah, Varric was a mary sue dwarf rogue ***** who in every other game would've died a few minutes into the game. We got a gay varric instead of a bro like Oghren.

So far the game has not forced me to take Anders into my party so Varric is worse.

DA went too far into high fantasy already with DA:A, but from DA:E/2 onwards it turned out to become an utter disaster. Earthquakes with swords? Ridiculous.
The one thing that made DA stand out from other games in the same vein they managed to destroy themselves, because "we don't like dark fantasy", q.v. Patrick Weekes. Silly sod.
And yes, what they did to Anders from DA:A to DA:E is essentially killing the entire character and replacing him with militant LBGTIQislamist ... thing.

I had to get a mod because literally every single fight would open and be peppered with Hawke screaming "IM EXHAUSTED" "I NEED MORE MANA" "I CAN'T KEEP THIS UP" over and over again because the combat barks don't take blood magic into account. Yes I have a tiny mana pool because I have two sustained buffs on. Not really relevant when I *don't use mana for spellcasting*
