2 dead rats but where IS the big one

Hey @Ireneu are the proportions of the rats in the image below about accurate? Just in case one of us may want to throw them, skin or butcher them for rations. Keep in mind that Zollo's a tall bloke.
β–Ί Show Spoiler
The rats are just 35cm long, weight about 3kg, and their height is something like 15cm.

In retrospect, giving them 4 hp is too excessive. 2 hp would have been better.
Wait, according to your introduction the rats *have* 2 hp and AC 1 if not I have not killed my latest hit, but thats a bit confusing.

I want to throw a rock at the mysterious red eyed figure that Stein has seen in the back of the cellar. Hopefully even if I can't do much damage to it then then at least I may be able to antagonize it into stepping closer. Image

Also, how long would it take for Stein to use his Flint & Steel to relight one of the candles? Obviously not the one Zollo consumed during his furious onslaught. Image

Roll a missile attack with the bonuses with a -4 sight penalty instead of -2 and consider AC 2.

A full round (ten seconds in-game) to light the fire. The only other free action is talk as you have to stay put and use both your hands.

Correct, nothing changed for you, you just readied your dagger. It only got a bit darker thus the penalty changing from -1 to -2 to most actions.

I think we're already holding the candles from the inn. But I'll have Stein call out to Hrod Lastson (@ERYFKRAD) anyway in case he snagged an extra torch when he talking about gathering them.

Hrod asks his question as he too makes for the cellar.
He pauses for another moment.
"We'd best take as many torches and candles as we can hold. What rats we can't chase away we might as well set aflame.
Unless something crazy happens I'll try and relight a candle or torch during the next turn. But for now: Image

Any time I'm fighting rats in any sort of RPG I try to keep in mind The Rats books. I wouldn't say they're 'good' but they're a fun read. The third one is set in a post nuke apocalyptic setting.

@Irenaeus I rolled a 1 on the attack dice. If I'm remembering correctly, a 20 forces the hit to land. Does a 1 on the dice force it to miss regardless of bonuses?

And if I go to throw another rock, what kind of damage dice should I use if I hit the target? Since I'm hurling it unassisted by a sling, I'm guessing it has to be less than 1d4.

(Edit: Found it in the manual)
Adventurer, Conqueror, King System wrote:
Example: A 20 HD bronze golem (attack throw -3) attacks on an ogre (AC3). It will need a modified roll of 0 (-3+3) or more to hit. However, an modified roll of 1 is always a miss, so the golem will need to roll at least a 2 or more.

Yup, you figured it out yourself. A rolled 1 is always a miss.

Some candles went out and the even darker fight now has penalty -2 for all attacks, except those with Sharp-sight (Osgar, Stein and Kal) who take only -1 penalty this round, the dogs and the rats.[/i]
Are the dogs and the rats taking a -1 To Hit on their attack rolls or are they immune to the darkness due to their animal senses?

They are immune to this darkness (low light) due to their animal senses.

Are we still in Initiative and only have a round to do stuff before the Big Cheese acts? Or is it lurking in the dark and won't attack unless we go after it?

Felix grabs the lit candle. And then checks whether there's a crate or barrel too large for rats to climb on.
If he does, he jumps on top of it and looks into the darkness.
...And bellows "It's over, Ratakin! I have a high ground!"

The fight is over, so the previous initiative rolls do not matter anymore. You can investigate the back of the cellar, or not.

You lads don't break anything, or the old bat's going to charge us. She wants to cheat us, since there's so many mouths to feed and hands to pay. Not sure she has room for us all, either. Some of you may need to sleep on the floor. I'll be washing up.

Enjoying reading your adventure boys, love seeing this imaginative writing stuff still alive and well. May the dice roll in your favor and the loot be aplenty.

Upstairs at the Inn's common room.

George strides back into the common room of The Mountain's Last Light, leaving the chaos of the cellar behind him. He approaches Brenna, who is still near the bar, looking anxiously towards the cellar door after Ostgar hurried back down with the candles.

With a grunt, George hefts the rough sack and drops it unceremoniously onto the wooden floor near her feet. The dull thud is accompanied by the distinct smell of dead rodent, adding to the lingering tension in the air. "Here you are, old woman!" he declares, perhaps a bit too loudly, gesturing at the sack. "Three dead ratties! That's a quarter of them killed by one man...". Β

Brenna recoils, first at the sack hitting her clean floor, wrinkling her nose in disgust at the sight and smell. "Gods' mercy, man! Not... not right there!" she stammers, gesturing vaguely for him to move it. But then her eyes fix on the sack, and a flicker of relief crosses her weary features. Dead rats. Proof that progress is being made below. "Three... dead?" she confirms, peering cautiously at the lumpy sack. "Good. Good riddance."

However, in George's next words, he dismisses his companions. "My men can clean up the rest. They're decent ratters." and immediately demands "In the mean time, I'll take a bowl of onion soup and you can show me to a room." Her brow furrows. She hired a large group, not just one man and his supposed underlings. And Ostgar just ran up asking for more candles – suggesting the job wasn't finished. Β

She draws herself up slightly, her practical, overworked nature taking over. "Soup, yes, there's soup on the hearth, help yourself to a bowl if you must," she says, her tone light and with warmth. "A room? You – all of you – will have get a big room and the rest of your payment when my cellar is cleared. Properly cleared. Are the others... is it finished down there? That lad Ostgar just took down more candles..."

Her expression is a mixture of lingering disgust at the rats on her floor and weariness from the whole ordeal. She wants the job done, fully, before handing out rewards beyond basic sustenance.
:read:
Did you work this out with George's player? (Sorry, don't have them memorized)
