Bannerlord - The Old Realms mod, what is your favorite career?

Post by WaterMage »

The most is the most popular total conversion mod on Steam Workshop and on Nexus Mods. I suggest that everyone who didn't try to try it.

The documentation about careers is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hAR ... .h9dgv37c5

The generic one is mercenary, can learn a bit of magic, a bit of martial arts, can get a vampire kiss, and can change its career later but is the most generic career. There are 3 vampiric bloodlines: Von Carstein, Blood Knight, and Necrach. Necrach are great wizards with an insane high WoM (Winds of Magic). Blood Knights are tankish brutes. Von Carstein are incredibly powerful battlemages, capable of wreaking spell destruction and, at the same time, being extremely powerful at melee. Necromancers are the unique non-vampires that can raise the undead.

Then, there is the Empire. Imperial College Wizard is like a sanctioned psyker but less grimdark. Instead of living in a cage, they live in a gilded cage. Warrior priest of Sigmar is the typical cleric and/or paladin. Warrior Priest of Ulric is the same but for another deity and can't heal. Witch Hunter is the guy that goes to hunt unsanctioned casters.

And Bretonnia. Damsel of the Lady, Knight of Bretonnia, Knight of Mousillon, Mousillon is the typical haunted region of Bretonnia. Think of them as Dark Paladins. The elves have Spellslinger, Grey Lord Wizards, and Waywatcher.

Each faction is unique. Vampires have hordes and hordes of undead serving them. Bretonnia has crazy powerful cavalry. Empire has the artillery. Elves have magic (humans are limited to only one Lore of Magic).

I'm limiting the answers to a few weeks because I believe that they are working on Dwarfs for the next update.

________________________

I only played as a Celestial Imperial Wizard, as a Necromancer, and as a Von Carstein. I would say that by far Von Carstein is the most ridiculous OP career so far. Almost as much magic as my Celestial Wizard. And almost as many melee powers as my best companions. Self-heal fly, which allows you to destroy enemy siege weapons during sieges. And you can use the heaviest weapons and armor with zero penalty to WoM regen. There is a perk that makes headshot kills (yes, it includes melee head kills) recover WoM. And getting hits on the head is crazy easy during sieges. However, my favorite class is the Celestial Wizard.

Most Warhammer games that feature Imperial College Wizards restrict you to the Bright Order. I'm glad that in this mod, I can be a celestial wizard. Celestial Wizards rocks. If a Bright Wizard can get a lot of tactical gains by burning stuff on the battlefield, a single Celestial Wizard can by using divination to locate enemy logistical hubs and decision-making centers, followed by wings of heaven spells and lightning strikes into enemy logistical hubs and conjuring hailstorms into enemy crops could win a war before the war even starts(and invest in agriculture before doing it)

Do the enemies counter-nuke your guys with spells or do you just win every fight for free?

Enemies do counter you with spells. And artillery. Everything which you can use, a enemy can use.

Think in a class in D&D sense.

Other thing about the mod. At moment, magic is extremely powerful. However, When Manlets/Dwarfs come, I believe that mages will find their hard counter. Dwarfs are extremely resistant vs magic.

Only played the mod before they properly implemented the career stuff, but played a vampire and a witch hunter. They were both pretty fun. Also tried warrior priest cause they're a vibe but they hadn't really fleshed out their blessings yet so i didn't stick with it

Been meaning to go back to this mod at some point but got too much other **** i wanna do atm
That and i kinda prefer the Warband one more (Warsword Conquest) anyway

Someone put more effort into this mod than the devs did into the game

Warsword Conquest, I couldn't run it. At least in Linux. I want to try the mod but I will not use M$ spybloatware for it. I will only use M$ spybloatware if my employee requires.

About Witch Hunter, does they get a lot of magical resistance and are their "repeater" firearms as OP as it seems? I only played with repeater firearms once. As a vampire. I got from a solder which dropped and OMG. This was ludicrous OP. I could get HS after HS and get 15 WoM in few seconds with it. Before I got it, I was using the "muzzleloader".

When I played em they didn't really have anything special going on for em tbh, but the vibe of havin an edgy trench coat and hat goin around with a blessed pistol executing heretics, cultists, beastmen and the undead n shiet with a ragtag band of zealous boys was ebic

As an early game witch hunter I would place multiple single shot pistols into my slots in an attempt to emulate what Saltzpyre does in this trailer. It had mixed success.

You can get "repeaters" too later on. If I remember correctly, you can also use buckshot ammo in certain weapons, it is devastating against poorly armored recruits in huge numbers. But is worthless against a small spaced heavy armored elite unit.,

I as a celestial mage got an freaking demigryph!!! HE is so cool.

Let me guess? M$ spybloatware?

Compiling stuff like shaders is much faster in Linux. For me took only 15 minutes to load.

Does this have a story or is it just a sandbox?

Just sandbox. For Fantasy mods with story, I believe that only Realms Forgotten has story(not sure) > https://www.moddb.com/mods/realms-forgotten

But Sandbox can create your own stories. For example, while playing as a vampire, I was unsatisfied with Mannfred von Carstein because he kept getting wars on all fronts and gave me castles and cities in vastly different areas. I was "enduring" till I saw that I was now strong enough to not need to obey him anymore. Left his faction, soloed Mousillon, and established my own kingdom there. While I was putting their main castle under siege, I got attacked by a huge army and barely won, but remember that vampires have necromancy? I reanimated my previous enemies and used them to attack Castle Mousillon. I destroyed it, and now many "Dukes" of Bretonnia are engaging in war against me. Because for them, I'm an outsider stealing their lands.

If I try to play the mod AGAIN, as the same vampire, trying to be as close as my char as possible, I will have a vastly different experience.

I love it.

EDIT : About Realms Forgotten.

I'm not betraying him. I gave up all my land and went to conquer Mousillon. BTW, I originally an a vampire from Mousillon not from Sylvania

No, it’s actually very well put together. Progress is slow for it but they still have a suitably large and playable product at this point.

This game/mod AI is beyond ********. Remember when I talked about my recent created kingdom? I was inviting my companions but a couple of nobles joined my kingdom and as we where fighting hard in the North. I took some castles and a city, protecting the villages, castles and cities was already hard. Do you know what my nobles wanted to do? Declare war on the empire, so we will have a "two front war" and have to deal with Bretonnia cavalry and Empire artillery, guns and magic. I refused and the noble was ****** off. He later demanded war against the same vampires that I helped made the strongest faction in the game in literally the other side of the map, I expelled him from my kingdom and cave his previous castle to my companions.

played it for a bit, and it is indeed a mod, ie removes the few non **** aspects of the game while keeping all the egregious retardation of the base game

it also completely wrecks the performance because mod
