IMO, bows shouldn't have str dmg mod, only base damage die and str prerequisite. You either can pull the string or you can not.

I meaaan if we were gonna be entirely realistic then a bow (or really any weapon for that matter) would have a minimum STR requirement and an upper STR cap beyond which you no longer get any bonuses. If you're strong, you can draw a bow further, increasing its range and damage, compared to someone drawing the same bow but who is weaker.

A bow, particularly depending on its size, requires a minimum STR in order to even effectively draw it. Failing to meet that requirement would incur heavy penalties regarding range and damage. Anything exceeding the requirement would bestow bonuses but only up to a certain point, after which you'd get diminishing returns or no bonuses at all.

Example: Shortbow
Min. STR 10. Max. STR 15
Bonuses STR 10: ±0 to range and dmg
Bonuses STR 11-13: +1 to range and dmg
Bonuses STR 14-15: +2 to range and dmg
Maluses STR < 10: -3 to range and dmg

Anything beyond STR 15 would give no bonuses because there's only so much you can get out of a wimpy little shortbow.

Aside from that a bow (and again any weapon) should not have a DEX requirement, but bonuses depending on DEX. If you have two left hands, you can still draw a bow but not hit anything with it. So really DEX should never be a requirement stat. This could lead to interesting scenarios were a 18 STR orc drawing a greatbow may have greater range and dmg than a 12 STR elf but because the elf has 18 DEX and the orc only 10 DEX, the elf would be a far more reliable shooter all things considered and would come out on top in an archer duel.

But all of this would be a hueg pain to write and account for when playing, which is why no one does that. Could work for a video game though.

Mount and Blade pretty much does this.

It's definitely the most realistic way.

Is this what we're doing? I like it.

I think I get another dmg die at lvl 3, and I don't know how long these games take, never played on a forum before.

Should have to record a video of yourself shooting at a target each time you want to shoot your character's bow

Already posted the missile attacks discussion in the rules thread, would appreciate if the players give their suggestions and comments there if they want.

I'm soon starting the prologue to the main adventure in which we test the Play-by-Post system and its rules in action, to check if it works and is fun for everybody (cellar rats and goblins likely to be included).

Here is the prologue: viewtopic.php?t=3710-iren-s-pbp-prologue

Players are free to go and play, meaning posting about their characters and describing actions taken if any.

Paging the players:
1- @Oyster Sauce
2- @Stack of Turtles
3- @asf
4- @Val the Moofia Boss
5- @Jordy (asked me to step down, allowed me to play his character as an NPC)
6- @logincrash
7- @TKVNC
8- @Rand
9- @Humbaba
10- @SpellSword
11- @Kalarion
12- @DemoGraph
13-@Lord of Riva
14-@maidenhaver
15-@ERYFKRAD

The game has started with a Prologue (with rats!), so head there to play here: viewtopic.php?t=3710-iren-s-pbp-prologue

The posts can be made in any order by the players, when I'm writing my next post advancing the story I'll be considering that every action is being taken simultaneously (as much as possible) unless the post explicitly says it is being take after someone else's action. Don't be shy in your posts, you can describe what you're doing at any level of detail you want, I will consider it when judging the action for the next post.

This thread now can be used as a General Discussion of the game as it unfolds. You can post Out-Of-Character here about plans and actions to take instead of the proper the game thread.

Orcs are called *******, in Arandia. Rats might be a problem in a town, but what's a ****** doing here? Surely he's a spy. It was never explained what commoners would say about an orc... so I improvised.

Is there meant to be a specific amount of time/responses before you continue scenes or is it just whenever you feel there's been enough input?

I'll try to post as soon as everybody posted, if there are still people who haven't posted in a day or two, I'll assume their characters were in the background or whatever makes more sense in the situation. I'm not splitting the group unless something really unusual happens. That's my idea for now.

The first post will be updated with the links to all threads and a better explanation of the state of the game and the idea for this thread.

The folk of Vurtidor have a corn festival in two days, where good folk from the surrounding farms bring all manner of corn crafts, offer corn at the shrine, and at night roast corn on the cob and drink sour mash around a bonfire. Ask them about CORN.

Not really, you are just the people who arrived on the same day at the town and slowly gathered at the local inn.

Yeah, that's not happening. No corn festival or other corn-related stuff.

Yesterday. He sent me a PM saying he's too busy to play and I asked him if I can use his character (the bard) as an NPC.

@Irenaeus when we went through char creation, I said George could never join an orc, regarding the character named Da Great Green Prophet with an orc for a character portrait. I was never corrected.

The corn fest was ********, though.

*In fact, you asked me if I'd join a party with an orc, if it might lead to clues regarding my background.

You brought the orc thing in the character creation thread yourself, I just reacted with the "interesting" react, then asf replied "it is da GREAT green prophet" and I found it was amusing, but I thought it was clear that everyone was human... Sorry if you misunderstood that!
