For discussing role-playing video games, you know, the ones with combat.

So this game sold 34 million copies and became one of the best selling games ever, somewhere in the same list with Skyrim, Zelda BotW and GTA5. Massive success.

You'd think it would be a prime candidate for expansion packs cashcow milking - you already have a huge install base comprised of rabid fans that would buy literally anything as long as it's a part of the franchise. Easiest slamdunk ever.

Yet...

Apparently they canceled it because they couldn’t justify the price with the amount of content they would delivered .Pretty daming considering most companies don’t have a problem overcharging for a rerelease.

This game was pretty bad to be honest, yes the setting was very well done but the fantasy of being a student wasn't fulfilled, you barely attend classes or do activities in the school and your character is a marysue/garystu that just feels out of place, the itemization if I remember correctly was dogshit, oh and no quddich because the ***** tried to sell it separately just to fail like the ******** mother fuckers they are.

And on top of that the combat was pretty bad, all melee attackers teleported to you and no joke I uninstalled the game after I noticed this stupidity:

An RPGHQ koan: If a DLC is cancelled, but it's unannounced, did it really exist?

Remember when this game sold 800 million copies, won GOTY, and then went radio silent forever with no news of DLC or a sequel?

I don't think they planned on it doing anywhere near as well as it did and had zero plans for continuing support.
I haven't played it but as far as I can gather it's a rather average rpg-lite ubisoft formula game that happens to be a somewhat faithful adaptation of a very popular IP

Not enough of actually doing student things for me. The rest of it was decent and as a Harry Potter fan growing up I loved being able to just walk around the school and grounds in their entirety.

The foreign exchange student and her mom the teacher would’ve been fine and been more impactful even if they were the ONLY africans in a bri’ish boarding school in rural Scotland, but alas, Hogwarts of the Victorian Era is in fact more ‘diverse’(Brown) than it is in the Modern Era, curious.
Skyrim Belongs to the Nords.

The really insane part is that nobody thought of making such a game before, especially when the Potter craze was at its peak.

What usually happens is that some MBA says "X% of these sales will be brand-driven, so we should instead make a ****** game that costs less to make more money overall".

They ignore, of course, the cost of brand damage and the potential upside of creating new consumers for the brand by making a quality product.
