Surprised at the lack of thread for this already.
Apparently some ex Witcher devs are making their own open world RPG centered around vampires. Could be neat or it could be complete dog ****!

To be fair it's actually set in a fictional kingdom "somewhere in the carpathian mountains" so there's a multitude of peoples in that region. He's a peasant raised in a family of miners so I doubt he's meant to be jewish but it is funny. Kind of like how they made Arcade's middle name "israel" in New Vegas.

Yep. IMO, vampirism should corrupt you in really nasty ways. Like making a love become a terrible obsession, picking your personality traits, and messing in hard ways. For example, if the dude just likes blondies and likes magic, he would become a "lord" doing a lot of risky and unethical magical experiments that treat blondies like royalty and everyone else like second-class citizens.

I want to play a vampire to play as a dark, twisted version of my self-insert, not to be a hero.

I think locking it into that one direction too rigidly limits the RP possibilities. If the concept were that narrow, we’d never get characters like Christof Romuald from VTMR. His story is compelling because you want to see if he can resist the darkness or fully succumb to it.

Ideally, a vampire game should give you the freedom to explore that whole spectrum, not just the descent. The temptation for more power should be a key factor in the player's decision to further embrace the corruption or not. Another game that did this particularly well, IMO, was Vampyr .

That said, the option to play in the way you described should always be fully achievable, though. I definitely don't want to be forced to be a goody-two shoes if I'm playing a Vampire game.

But this game isn't even a Vampire game from what I can see. You play as a Dhampir. I would have been more interested in this if they went full Vampire. Dhampirs are lame, except Blade.

Edit: Also I still haven't watched any of the gameplay video.

A younger vampire resisting the darkness is fine. But it should be a matter of WHEN, not IF, they are corrupted.

That's fair. But corruption can take a lot of different forms and intensities, and nuance definitely makes a Vampire game more enjoyable.

Again, too bad this isn't a Vampire game. Since the player character is a Dhampir, I am assuming they are going to rail-road you into being a "good" guy to some extent.

Looks like Witcher 4: Vampire Edition. Combat is janky and I'm not a fan of pre-made protagonists+such a close over-the-shoulder camera, but this is an alpha and at least it should be better than the actual output expected from CDProjekt.

A Dhampir could be the perfect base state to roleplay turning into a full Vampire, either through power acquisition or through actions.

If it's made by ex-CDPR, it'll probably be another "RPG" with a forced protagonist and "choices" that boil down to option A or option B.

So much for role-playing...

Why do they have to make it an action RPG with the most boring janky uninspired half-baked gameplay everytime? :notsureif:

They aren't going to do that. Unless it's the "bad ending". Trust.

There's a severe lack of even semi-decent vampire RPGs so while this is definitely looking more and more to be pretty generic action-rpg slop I can only replay VTMB so many times.
