Happy to go with charge lance even though minigun is tempting.

Pretty sure I took a trait at some point that either improves fire rate at risk of accuracy or vice versa. Just wondering if this impacts the charge lance.

I think deserter bases are only accessible via quests from the empire where they drop us off in a shuttle. Was thinking about making a slave auxiliary where they run unarmed at enemies to soak up hits but it would probably just be a waste of food

Getting the piercing or melee speed expertise might work. The power arms are sharp, so the piercing would help punch through armor, but speed would help you tear through a crowd of enemies like that one more quickly. I think there are 2077 style arms with mantis blades or electric monowires that can be unlocked but that's less punchy.
