Alright, here's the characters' spells table:

Image

Tomorrow, hopefully, characters' starting equipment.
My Cleric has the Cure Light Wounds spell as the allowed spell pick and the Commune spell that was granted by the Prophesizing skill. Cure Light Wounds is the practical everyday spell, but Commune is a once-a-week-only vague mostly-roleplaying-oriented spell.
I forgot I promised even clerics a spell plus INT bonus at level 1, even as ACKS doesn't give them spells until level 2. I have to accept now, wouldn't be fair to turn back.

It sounds like every single Dumb ***** Podcast I've ever had to listen to. Must be incredibly easy to train AI on them since they're all the same.

Yeah, I think Microsoft has this podcast AI that takes the info you feed it and then turns it into 15-20 minute podcasts. Josh Moon has showcased it a couple of times on Mad at the Internet by making it talk about Chris Chan.

If I can only have 1 spell, I'd rather it be Cure Light Wounds. Commune is the only gameplay effect of the Prophesizing skill, so swapping those spells would balance my useful skills back to 3, with Healing, Combat Trickery and Survival. Prophesizing would be just a flavor skill tied to the backstory.

@Stack of Turtles Did you pick your spells? I can't find any record. You start with 3 from your INT +2 bonus.

Everyone else, make sure you have picked your starting equipment so I can add to the character sheets.

Meanwhile, if your PC is finished already, you can spend 20 minutes listening to some informative unpacking of all characters (minus Lord of Riva, maidenhaver and ERYFKRAD, this cuts off just before getting to them). There might be something to learn here about your party!

I had a different character in mind, but then I rolled for everything from the stats to the background and had to make a backstory from there. That did make for a more fun way to build a character for sure.
Also, adding a couple of short term and long term goals makes your character more proactive than just somebody who's there to see what rollercoaster the DM has prepped for the party.

I won't come around listening to that story part until later today or tomorrow. Timezones are a bit irksome for me for this forum.

But you speaking about spells let me remember that I wanted to ask something, namely do casters really have only one cast per 8 hours on level 1 and 2 on level 2? Without cantrips that makes me stand around in combat most of the time, especially with the amount of hits a mage has on level 1.

If the computer sees every letter that is normally capitalized is lower case, and the others all upper case, it should just correct it for you and turn capslock off.

Hey, LoR, don't worry about timezones so much. The pacing of the game will be slow and allow people to catch up in their own sweet time.

The setting is low-fantasy, where magic is rare. Your character is already one of the most powerfil mages in the party, so you will stand out prominently whenever you act. It's nice that you're already role-plaing the part of the power-hungry wizard. The tone of the game will be one of exploration, survival against odds with cunning and caution, and finding loot to justify all the effort and to propel the surivors to the next adventure and their goals.

Witcher is low fantasy. Game of Thrones is low fantasy. Dragon Age is low fantasy.
It's more about the tone of the setting. Blood and guts and sex and swearing with magic present is low fantasy.
High fantasy is more idealized stuff like LotR.

@Irenaeus Can I put a last minute order into the general store and spend 1 silver for 4 Herbs, 4 ingredient sets and another Bottle of Booze? (Unless I'm mistaken the store table seems to show ingredients as 5 per 1 copper)

@Kalarion you can add two spells for yourself. Also, what god or gods are you a cleric of? Same question for @logincrash
The others don't need to follow gods as they are not clerics, but if you WANT to you can add that information.

I assume the prophetic dream and the instruction to atone for my foul deeds came from the One True God. I'm fine with not knowing whether that's true or not but still believing that it is.

To me, low fantasy means that most people cannot easily access crazy fantastical stuff like in WoW where anyone can learn crazy magic spells or easily acquire a dragon to fly on. Low fantasy β‰  a gritty gross aesthetic, but is commonly paired with it.

Exactly! Magic should be mysterious to the uninitiated and suspicious even to grizzly veterans.
As for gritty, the setting will be dangerous but not brutal. Adventurers are the only ones willing to be going to the really grim locations, but avoiding seemingly death traps is possible - and should be the goal anyway - unless you want to be a famous hero.

Reminder that a lot of the characters have incredibly high luck and have great chance of defying the odds and suceeding, that's why the game is based on their stories.
