Is RPGHQ an RPG?

For discussing role-playing video games, you know, the ones with combat.

Is RPGHQ an RPG?

Post by Val the Moofia Boss »

You have roles with moderators, effortposters, shitposters, women, game reviewers, etc. There are stats with post count. You can buff your favorite players by giving them a Image. There is a dramatic story to follow about an exile from a once glorious homeland, a long defeat against evil, and comrades who have fallen along the way. It has the ultimate reactivity where every interaction with another character is unique.

It must be a JRPG, since it has pro-immigration themes with a border-spanning romance arc featuring @GhostCow.

There was another border-spanning romance arc I heard of but if I speak of her she might show up, so I'll have to trust you know who I mean...

I think every user having a character sheet would be cool and funny, not to mention on-brand.

Well, for a serious answer: no, RPGHQ is not an RPG because it isn't a simulation, it is the thing itself. @Valter hit the nail on the head.

No, RPGHQ is not an RPG, just a MOBA. It has no single player mode and is strictly based around instanced PvP play.

The real problem with thinking this way is that as soon as stats are implemented and skills are described, everyone is going to ***** about encounter design and poor writing.

Best think of RPG HQ as a bonfire. We hang around it, and we occasionally toss a developer in to stoke the flames.

There's no encounter design or writing, though. There's no story. There's no world. There's just a lobby and you pick an instance to engage in PvP in. You don't have character classes or levels. World of Warshits is more of an RPG than RPGHQ is.

Other than the classical sense- King Arthur and Charlemagne and Roland and what not.

You have no idea
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?
