I always liked 4d6kh3, D&D's "heroic" option. It's random enough to be interesting and not bland like point buy, but it's a little harder (though not impossible!) to completely blow it.

Normally I'm a point-buyist, but for something short or highly lethal, I have no qualms with rolling for stats.

I'm thinking of offering both options, with a bit of a malus for "point-buyers" meaning a reward for going for randomness but still allowing players to choose what they want to play, for example a mage.

I like this option too although whenever I do test rolls I still get ****** up stats.

4d6kh3 is a valid dice roll on here, btw. I still need to add named rolls tho, been thinking on how to change the roll UI for it

I've decided to use large parts of ACKS
I was going to use ACKS II for my game (later this year, probably), so I'll definitely be following this to see how things are going.
Irenaeus wrote: March 15th, 2025, 20:44
do you prefer a more stable/point-buy character creation or do you favor the odds of random 3d6 for stats, etc.?
ACKS II has a new rolling system:
primary stat is 5d6, drop lowest 2
2 other secondaries of player's choice are 4d6 drop lowest
3 other stats are 3d6

You could use the basic set, which is well, basic.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeons_ ... _Basic_Set

Perhaps someone here has played a B/X game before could chime in, but I know it's rather slimmed down compared to AD&D
I think the most popular edition was the "red box", 1983? edition. PHB+DMG comes in together at around 100 pages total.
Even with that set, there are versions within the rules. In the most basic one, all weapons do 1d6 damage, from a dagger to a greataxe.

Basic set (class levels 1 to 3):

Expert set (class levels up to 14, excepting nonhumans):

You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

How did Brave AI do?

Threatening Message

The excerpt appears to be a threat written in Chinese. Let's break it down:

"到巴西贫民区来" means "Come to the slum area of Brazil."
"再告诉我一遍" means "Tell me again" or "Remind me again."
"我的 MS13 人" refers to the speaker's associates or followers, who are allegedly affiliated with the MS13 gang. MS13 is a real gang known for its violent activities.
"把你变成炒饭" is a metaphorical expression that roughly translates to "Make you into chopped food" or "Make you into a meal." It's a threat to harm or kill the person being addressed.
"吃石头的小人" means "Eating stones is for dwarfs" or "Stones are for dwarfs." This phrase is used to insult the person, implying they are weak or insignificant.

In simple terms, this excerpt is a threat from someone who claims to have connections to the MS13 gang. They're warning the person being addressed to be careful, implying that they might be harmed if they don't comply with their demands.

After some careful consideration over the rules, I've decided to use large parts of ACKS system (read more about this system here and the get the rules here.) for the first game, which like said earlier will be a simpler adventure romp to test the waters in Play-by-post.
:read: I've been reading the the manual and it looks pretty fun. :dice:

@Irenaeus will the Spellsword class be available in your campaign?

Trying to understand this and I look forward to reading it as it unfolds my man. Wish you well with the adventure and perhaps at some point I might volunteer with a Priest/Paladin or Cleric depending on the setting.

I like this one; I think it’s somewhat similar to a 'bravery' system. Sure, you can use points and min-max, but if someone chooses to gamble, they get 1-2 extra points. It will also make it feel a bit better if the dice aren’t on your side entirely.
