I think he genuinely believed he achieved a compromise that would make everyone happy.

The wokes give up on making Bohemia into California (like an anglo studio would have) but still get their token black dude and gay relationship. He sacrifices a bit historical accuracy but keeps at least plausibility by placing the black dude in a larger city and keeping the gays in the closet.

Thing is, there's a series of realizations that a sane man must gradually go through as they deal with SJWs and wokes:

1) You can never make them happy
2) You cannot apologize to them
3) You cannot compromise with them
4) **** it, you cannot even tolerate them

It takes a while to fully realize that you're dealing with insane and genuinely evil people, and it's especially hard if you've grown up in a healthy society where people around you would have honest disagreements and solve them like adults.

Vavra is a Gen X dude who grew up in the Czech province, about as healthy and sane a culture as you can imagine. I think he is still stuck on 1 or 2 and will stay there until he gets backstabbed at least another couple of times.
