Episode 28: Gunning Down Civilians For The Greater Good




Our brand new paramedic bot tends to Chuck's pulverized face and fractured skull



Hoss rolls poorly(?) and goes berserk, failing to bin his knive



It's really hard to beat people into submission when we're all wearing armor. Should invest in some tasers or dart guns or something

Musa and Scibilla are working out in the fields when suddenly they're covered by shadows



Drop pods land directly inside our courtyard

Musa drops a smoke grenade and runs for the nearest door while bullets whiz past



But he's too slow due to missing 40% of his head



Duke storms out the front door to draw their fire. He wasn't counting on them having sabot rounds, which have extreme armor penetration while doing little damage. It's enough to leave a few needles in his brain though.



A stray bullet flies through the open door and Chuck loses a kidney



The raiders are caught in a crossfire and brought down without too much harm. We lost a wind generator, about 10 turtles, and a kidney. Not aw-



A second wave lands, though this time they're scattered across the map. Zoth instantly shoots one down



Tangerine was caught while working outside of the walls. He channels the spirit of Skullsmasher and decapitates an enemy with a single punch



More are closing in on him. Stack has unlocked the ability to teleport to any dark location, so he's able to flank and even the odds. This wave is entirely melee focused for some reason.



Elias' rifle becomes mythic

A third wave arrives, and this time they remembered their rifles.



Vitya takes a bad shot to the head and has to be carried from the field



Stack has a ceremony coming up so we called the bestower as backup



A very cramped bestowing ceremony. Stack unlocks the power to call back one of our guys from anywhere on the planet as long as it's night. The ordeal tuckers him out for a while.



The incendiary round that hit Vitya cooked his brain a little. He's comatose and won't be waking up unless we find a way to revert brain damage.



...and then we get a quest that offers Luciferium. We accept it.

A concoction of mechanites that dramatically improve the body's functioning in all respects. Over time, it can even heal old scarred-over wounds or brain damage, though it cannot regenerate lost limbs. Unfortunately, without the moderating effects of regular doses every five or six days, the mechanites lose cohesion, causing continuous berserk rages and, eventually, death.
After the first dose, there is no way to get the mechanites out, ever.
On the urbworlds, they call Luciferium the 'Devil's Bargain'. Many have been forced to kill friends when no more of the seductive red pills could be found.

This would save him, but he'd be hooked on the stuff for the rest of his life. It's his call. He could also try rolling the D20 of Heaven and Hell, or pray that we find another way to heal him. We do have an awful lot of Luciferium right now though.



With wounded still in the hospital, hordes of shamblers come at us from both sides






They're on the walls before we can get anyone out there to fight back



A caravan that was coming to trade with us is attacked, they lose a few guys while trying to shelter in our little insect fort



Zoth breaks down and starts nagging Oyster while he's the only one shooting zombies over here



Raviola was out hauling wastepacks and wasn't able to get inside before being cut off. A few caravaneers are right behind her



Oyster has to haul Zoth to safety while this entire side is lost



GhostCow is able to grab Raviola while the caravan is torn apart



Val's swordsmanship is great for covering the retreat



Vergil is nearly killed by BD's friendly fire. Boon saves his life seconds before he would have died



The entire caravan is gunned down alongside the horde, turning their faction hostile. Oh well.



The east courtyard is being overrun




The very expensive garage door is bashed down and Tangerine goes to protect the dirtbike



This corridor is being used to kill as many undead as possible in a tight formation. The clouds of rotstink get into Duke's lungs and make him sick.



Tangerine gets bit all over but is able to slam the sturdy wooden door beh-

All of our roosters have been slaughtered, but the hens manage to peck this shambler to death. Woke, but at last they've all been taken care of.



We save as many wounded caravaneers as possible. If we release them after healing them we'll get some reputation restored.

Vitya will be killed if his consciousness hits 0%. The alcohol withdrawals are going to be the death of him, so we forcefeed him beer to save his life.

Daily meditation slowly gives you XP, every ceremony performed when you increase a rank with the Empire gives you an extra level, and there are psytrainers given as quest rewards. You just got an ability to consume all nearby corpses to permanently increase your neural heat capacity that I should really be making use of. Also, you can corpsetalk with a body to drain any of their skills that are higher than yours. Time to bring back the corpse cave.

It turned out that nearly caving Chuck's skull in actually was his holding back, as evidenced when he punched a zombie's head clean off later.

The ideology system can be set to one spouse, multiple spouses for men, or multiple spouses for women. The generic RPGHQ ideology that everybody followed is just one spouse, though he could cheat which would lead to a breakup.
