I still like playing ubislop specifically the assassin's Creed games because the gameplay tends to be fun for me

I built my desktop in 2015 because of Star Citizen, and upgraded its GPU in 2021-ish because of Cyberpunk 2077.
I own both games, preordered Cyberpunk.

Did you try/like Death Stranding?
Yes and yes but I wouldn't call it a walking simulator
In the 80's I got stuck on a game and I broke down and called the Sierra Hotline over something that turned out to be incredibly stupid.
I refuse to play Metroid because I heard Samus shows up in a bikini at the end, and I consider that an appeal to simpdom.
I even looked for rom hacks, alas, no such project exists.
Samus is a man.

Something I rarely ever see anyone bring up with regards to modern monetization is how games used to be designed to sell guides & using 1-900 tiplines.Xenich wrote: ↑ March 6th, 2025, 18:31In the 80's I got stuck on a game and I broke down and called the Sierra Hotline over something that turned out to be incredibly stupid.
I think one of the Ultima Underworlds even has almost the entire story in its strategy guide

The sad thing is that idiots somehow came to believe this is more fun so we now have wiki gamesrusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ March 7th, 2025, 05:01Something I rarely ever see anyone bring up with ******* to modern monetization is how games used to be designed to sell guides & using 1-900 tiplines.Xenich wrote: ↑ March 6th, 2025, 18:31In the 80's I got stuck on a game and I broke down and called the Sierra Hotline over something that turned out to be incredibly stupid.

VAE VICTIS
I have a terrible habit of thinking of slight improvements that could be made to game as i play and ruining them for myself in the process.
My ck3 play time is a lot closer to my ck2 play time than I'd like to admit.
That used to be part of the fun though. Well, I should say part of the extras. If you shelled out money for the hint guide you got all the extra interviews, lore, art, etc etc. If they withheld the basic story then that's a **** move.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ March 7th, 2025, 05:01Something I rarely ever see anyone bring up with regards to modern monetization is how games used to be designed to sell guides & using 1-900 tiplines.Xenich wrote: ↑ March 6th, 2025, 18:31In the 80's I got stuck on a game and I broke down and called the Sierra Hotline over something that turned out to be incredibly stupid.

People who had experienced that first hand are now old asses, who have been out phased by zoomers already on gaming sites. I mean even pisstation 3 is considered as retro these days.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ March 7th, 2025, 05:01Something I rarely ever see anyone bring up with regards to modern monetization is how games used to be designed to sell guides & using 1-900 tiplines.Xenich wrote: ↑ March 6th, 2025, 18:31In the 80's I got stuck on a game and I broke down and called the Sierra Hotline over something that turned out to be incredibly stupid.

The only Legend of Zelda game I have ever actually finished is Wind Waker.

Skyrim Belongs to the Nords.

True, in retro gaming forums populated by boomers it's well known. Especially regarding moon logic Sierra games.Tinky Winky wrote: ↑ March 8th, 2025, 05:17People who had experienced that first hand are now old asses, who have been out phased by zoomers already on gaming sites. Never liked the point'n'click kind of adventure games because they purposely leaned into the moon-logic stuff.
Some of the first/third person adventure games can be OK.

I have a terrible tendency of installing a bunch of games and then don't play any of them. It's especially bad with all the roms I have in my folders right now. And don't even get me started on my backlog that seems like it will never end.
I look up which stats are worthwhile before creating a character so I don't end up dumping points into one that's effectively useless.

I don't consider this a sin because it's just an issue that plagues most RPGs. I think we even had a thread on it, if anyone wants to find it.Tangerine wrote: ↑ March 9th, 2025, 14:36I look up which stats are worthwhile before creating a character so I don't end up dumping points into one that's effectively useless.
I don't really know the solution to it. Perhaps compare the games least affected by it, I suppose.

If I think a game becomes slop because of it's mechanics, for example tedium, I am not above cheating.
For example I have way too much hours in the total war games for but in my most recent playthroughs I just could not be arsed to again and again play defensive battles that take way to long and are always the same because mid game TW always ends up playing like whack-a-mole. So I started enabling a "Player-op" mod, close the game, enable it, auto-resolve, save, close and disable the mod again.
But here comes the catch the moment I cheat I lose interest in a game, it becomes boring instantly. So I am not entirely sure if that is just a sin or if I am just ******** but it is what it is.

Resident Anti-feminist MRA, Race-mixer and no I'm not woke and not gay. Married with children, My writing style is shit, live with it or ignore me.
I would say that the problem is that the difficulty is frontloaded, so that by the lategame it is very easy and your victory is assured and you are just going through the motions. I also wound up abandoning most of my Mount & Blade playthroughs once I had a few cities and my army could just crush everything, and couldn't be bothered to systematically conquer every city and finish the map. The only playthrough I wound up completing was Prophecy of Pendor, because by the time I reached a position where I was able to crush everything, there were only two middling nations left so it only took me a few more hours to finish.Lord of Riva wrote: ↑ March 9th, 2025, 16:12If I think a game becomes slop because of it's mechanics, for example tedium, I am not above cheating.

I stuck to mainly small maps while playing Battlefield, mostly infantry based.
Death Stranding is legitimately 10/10 and any walking simulator criticism is the clearest filter ever.
