TFA comes off bad due to lack of creativity and incompetence. TLJ is bad out of spite.Jordy wrote: ↑ February 25th, 2025, 21:52It baffles me that everyone goes on about TLJ being bad and I feel like I'm the only one that saw the writing on the wall from TFA. More bad news for Star Wars fans...

I shudder to think what they'd classify as a catastrophic run.
As for SW's revival, it may be a possibility if Disney were to pause all slop production for 5 to 10 years, retcon the Kennedy **** (to win the old fanbase back) and the start out slow with some sensibly budgeted projects made by known talent, and aimed at the right demographic.
Mind you, this is a massive IF, since the popularity and profitability of Star Wars hinged almost completely on the built-in fanbase, who in turn would raise their children to be fans too. 13 years is a long time, a shitload of kids have grown up only knowing the trash Kennedy produced and have no attachment to the IP, so putting SW content on pause would breed further apathy in audiences, but continuing to **** out slop will just bury the brand all the quicker.
Even if Disney managed to turn things around SW will never be the juggernaut it once was.
You are NOT the only one.Jordy wrote: ↑ February 25th, 2025, 21:52It baffles me that everyone goes on about TLJ being bad and I feel like I'm the only one that saw the writing on the wall from TFA. I've gone back to try and watch it a couple of times and can't get further than 20 mins, if that.
When I saw the previews long before the movie released, I said it stunk so bad I could smell the ****-stench coming back through time.
People derided me, because the copium is omnipresent. They could not see what I saw instantly: that it was soulless slop.
One of the first clips I saw that made it clear it was memberberry **** was the scene of the Falcon swooping around fighting tie fighters on (not)Tattooine.
Everything looked wrong, especially the swoopy camera following the Falcon. I noticed the (stupid) color reversed tie fighters immediately and it was a blatant directorial scheme. I was the only one that could see it was inept crap, apparently.
The more I saw of the movie in previews, the less I liked it, and I started off just below "okay".
Eventually I swore never to watch it and my friends thought I was crazy that I wouldn't go see it.
Now they understand, though. Far too late.

Haven't watched anything past Revenge. Still have these from opening day. Have the original ticket stub somewhere but can't find it at the moment.

One should not underestimate another major aspect. Even the actors of the originals are on board with the destruction. Both Hamill and Ford suffer from TDS. If your old heroes are against you, it can retroactively harm your enjoyment of the originals. What's the worth of seeing an old movie knowing that the people that made the magic possible are pieces of **** that wish you ill at every opportunity?

As long as the director can edit their ******** on-screen and they perform to specifications or greater, it's meaningless.

Only took 7 years of Doomcock and Midnight's Edge saying "my inside sources say Kathleen Kennedy will be fired from Lucasfilm very soon!" for it to finally happen
I didn't have the same foresight as you and actually watched the film. What gets me though is the amount of people, including jewtube grifters, that say TLJ is where it went wrong. TFA gets a pass for some reason.

I watched a chunk of Rogue One and everything was weirdly off about it.
The director doesn't understand Star Wars and can only use the superficial trappings.
It's like a girl playing with GI Joes: she does it weird as compared to boys.

Hammil has gone insane, but Ford is professional enough to shut the **** when told. Not that I think either would be in any shape to reprise their roles in a hypothetical revival 10 years down the line.Cloharp7 wrote: ↑ February 25th, 2025, 22:08Both Hamill and Ford suffer from TDS. Not that they, or the Obi-Wan **** matter - if Disney was sane they'd have the characters be played by younger actors.
TFA was ******* awful for me, not just because the lead was an ugly ****, ****** and spicjew were starring in it, but also because it was a more ******** retreading of A New Hope, without anything that made that movie work present here.
The "good" guys were completely lacking in charm or personality, the ****** being the only one that had anything resembling a character arc, the villain was a pathetic manchild that got his *** repeatedly kicked by a girl with no Jedi training, and the worldbuilding made no sense whatsoever.
Any SW sequel that isn't the Thrawn trilogy is already a failure, because those books were the foundation upon which the EU was built. They laid out a logical continuation of events after Return of the Jedi - the fledgling New Republic trying to stabilize while the splintered remnants of the Empire, still massively powerful, tried to reorganize themselves, but just kept destroying each other in brutal civil wars.
To be fair, any sane company would have fired Kenndy a decade ago. She's likely costed Disney billions of dollars and utterly destroyed what should have been a perpetual money-printing machine.Val the Moofia Boss wrote: ↑ February 25th, 2025, 22:11Only took 7 years of Doomcock and Midnight's Edge saying "my inside sources say Kathleen Kennedy will be fired from Lucasfilm very soon!" for it to finally happen
The only good scenes in Rogue One were the ones with Vader in it.Rand wrote: ↑ February 25th, 2025, 22:15I watched a chunk of Rogue One and everything was weirdly off about it.
I still don't get why people keep saying it was the "best" movie of Kennedy's run, when it realistically has no reason to exist. It's also a poorly-paced mess that ruins one of the more clever aspects of ANH. In the OT, the Death Star is destroyed because of the Empire's hubris, both in assuming no ship could threaten the station, and because they overlooked, or simply chose to ignore, a fatal flaw.
Meanwhile in Rogue One the Rebels win because some hitherto unknown galaxy brain scientist purposely included a flaw in the station that no one else on the design team found.
Also, I think the movie feels off because it was a quick hackjob after Disney got spooked by the negative reception of the "I rebel" girlboss moment in the trailer. At least they had the sense to murder all the awful characters by the end of the movie.

Right, I remember seeing a ****** in the first seconds of the teaser and noping out of the whole franchise forever.Jordy wrote: ↑ February 25th, 2025, 21:52It baffles me that everyone goes on about TLJ being bad and I feel like I'm the only one that saw the writing on the wall from TFA. Didn't even finish watching the teaser - and never will - much less watching the trailers or the actual movie.
Trigger warning (it's 22 seconds in):

It tells you a lot about the state of the IP (and the results of Disney's handling) that a barely coherent movie is considered the "best" by most people for simply telling its story without putting down previously established characters (Katarn & friends notwithstanding).gerey wrote: ↑ February 25th, 2025, 22:22The only good scenes in Rogue One were the ones with Vader in it.

The only reason she is stepping down now is because Trump is threatening to release the Epstein client list and may just do it. That *****, like Pelosi, has a little black book filled with Hollywood big wigs that went to get foot rubs by underage sex slaves on Epstein's Island. Now that the list is going to be released there is no more blackmail material for her to threaten the Disney executives so she is going to take her little lifetime achievement awards and **** off into the sunset before **** hits the fan. If not for that the ***** would have stayed on at Lucasfilm until her dying breathes just out of spite towards the Star Wars fandom.

Isn't it something like when her contract expires at the end of the year?
I saw TFA exactly once. Tried watching it again before TLJ and I did even worse. I couldn't get past 10 minutes. It's an absolutely awful film with an insufferable **** main character. The side characters are crap. And nose man (I honestly can't even remember the idiot's name now) belonged in a padded cell. I think the only part I even liked was watching that moron Harrison Ford get lightsabered.Jordy wrote: ↑ February 25th, 2025, 21:52It baffles me that everyone goes on about TLJ being bad and I feel like I'm the only one that saw the writing on the wall from TFA. TLJ was so bad I only managed to finish it by watching it in small parts over about a week. Seeing it in the theater was out after TFA. Never saw the 3rd one or that Solo garbage with eyebrow woman.
Watched the first... I think 2? seasons of ManDodo (the dork in the helmet show). I didn't like any of that at all. I did like the Andor show a little. The problem was the usual though: woke like hell. Gay girlbosses, generally dystopian and not fun at all. I think it would have worked better not set in Star Wars period. Also I think they unintentionally were showing how the west has become so fascist without realizing it. A lot of the anti-Imperial commentary from characters could applied to just about any western nation today. Not sure I'll check out season two though.
They did a really amazing job at one thing: ruining even the originals. I can't can't stomach even trying to watch the originals now. I don't mind Palps and Vader, but even seeing young Han or Luke turns my stomach.

From what I hear is that she is going to step down this year, maybe at Star Wars Celebration where she will announce her successor, but she will remain at Lucasfilm for one more year to be a consultant to her successor. A final **** you to the fans who hate her. Remember, she wants to leave on a W and in 2026 I think that is when the Mandalorian movie comes out. She is hoping that will be her W.
