This is the thread for the real Dynasty games, and not the weird asset flip Toplitz published builder/rpg games.
Newest Musou games are:
If western devs would make Musou games, what would you like the setting to be? 100-Years War? Peloponnesian War? War of the Roses? The Crusades? Or would you rather have fantasy ones with settings like LOTR, Arthurian legend? Discworld? Wheel of Time?
Perhaps the only games with western settings I have seen so far are these:

I tried playing Dynasty Warriors 2 (first one is a fighting game for some reason) and it was too hard/bad for me.

You play as a famous warrior or general from the Three Kingdoms period, where you run or ride around the battlefield bailing out your forces by twirling your spear and AoEing dozens of enemy soldiers at a time before jumping off to go help at some other part of the battlefield. Kinda like a horde shooter but melee and medieval themed.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ February 25th, 2025, 03:50just saw the "musou" tag on steam

A Lord of the Rings Musou would be incredible. But in terms of more historical settings, the skies the limit. The various Roman wars and Crusades would make for great games, as would the Battle of Hastings or the conflicts between England and the Vikangz. I wish a good AA developer would see the gap in the market, and decide to compete with Koei Tecmo. Capcom did with the Devil Kings/Sengoku Basara series, and they arguably surpassed Musou in every way.
closest you'll get for LOTR are the ps2 EA games (two towers/return of the king, DO NOT play fellowship that game is insane dogshit holy **** what a waste of a rental) that are more or less hack-and-slash/beat em ups and conquest on ps3 which is more similar to the old battlefront gamesKnightoftheWind wrote: ↑ February 25th, 2025, 05:41A Lord of the Rings Musou would be incredible. it's not a true musou but the kingdom under fire crusaders/heroes games are similar in that, "go into a huge horde of enemies and beat the **** out of them" way. more edgy d&d/2000s western fantasy inspired than having that distinct LOTR aesthetic though

I prefer the earlier ones (though with KOEI it's always one step forward, three steps back), if only because you weren't a god on the battlefield yet, and the enemy troops could be a threat if not eliminated before tackling the enemy officer.
Pity KOEI, and musou games in general, have move away from this more grounded approach in favor of letting you mow down thousands of enemy troops.
