Her voice would have annoyed me even in the 90s and 00s.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ July 31st, 2023, 01:29I didn't find it offensive, altho it's easy to see why someone would look at it in current year and see it as such I suppose.
We have a Steam curator now. You should be following it. https://store.steampowered.com/curator/44994899-RPGHQ/
What game are you playing?
The whole reason I'm unable to play WH40K Inquisitor as the Imperial Assassin is I find her voice akin to torture.

Who is the voice actress? I want to hear her voice.Ratcatcher wrote: ↑ July 31st, 2023, 10:06The whole reason I'm unable to play WH40K Inquisitor as the Imperial Assassin is I find her voice akin to torture.
Dunno her name but she's clearly injecting black mannerisms in her speech. Here:
there should be quite a few voiced lines in this video. The voice in the opening sequence is hers in what's notoriously one of the tamest and better conceived dialogues she has.
She doesn't go full 'HELLLLL YEAAAAAH SISTAH' in game ofc but in more than a few moment you can feel her on the brink of shouting 'HOL UP!' or smth, then she recovers.

She sounds like she's smoked the past 40 years along with very heavy drinking and drug use. This woman was a party girl.
Playing Shiren the Wanderer, DS version of the original. Pretty fun. There's no character building unlike all the western roguelikes I've played but there's a huge focus on consumables, because most of them are quite powerful, and inventory management, because it's quite small. Technically it's not a true roguelike in that you can store items at certain points to use in future runs, but I doubt it's necessary to beat the game and I've yet to store anything particularly useful anyway.
My first run ended on 15F or so, then one ended early because I tried to steal from the shop in the second village and got eviscerated by a guard dog, then my next run ended even earlier from sheer stupidity. My fourth final run of the night was going smoothly and I had gotten all the way down to 27F, but then an enemy knocked both my sword and shield into the abyss and shortly after that I got confused and then turned into an onigiri by a mage while being pelted by rocks from some offscreen enemy. Another enemy coming from behind and trapping me in the hallway sealed my fate.

No offense but I hate her nagging performance nonetheless.

I think this might be a bit of an overlooked gem. First 'tutorial' level is pretty ****, but the game gets a lot better after that. It's one of those whatchamacallit, "imsims".

Is that the stealth RPG in which you play as the Garrett wannabe? I got filtered by the buggy tutorial, never had the time to play it in one sitting and, each time I tried reloading my saves the game would simply cr4p and either fail to load, place me in a different spot or I'd have a number of missing items. Dunno if it ever got fixed as this happened quite some time ago but I 'member being so ****** off with the wasted time I uninstalled and never looked at it again.
It did look interesting, on paper tho.

I'd suggest finishing the first area ASAP just so the game opens up. Don't worry about looting anything there.

I am playing Into the Breach, the "Neon Genesis Evangelion"-themed puzzle game. It is frustrating, I want to think that every battle is set up to be solvable with a perfect score but it doesn't seem to be the case. It's super gay when I get a "protect the train" mission and an enemy is already set up turn 1 to destroy it, but the bug is positioned just so that it's impossible to dislodge it with the mechs I've got.

Feel like I'd be enjoying this a lot more if this was click to move, and all the benefits that provides. Have so much trouble just finding things/people. Pretty sure this was designed for gamepad.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ July 31st, 2023, 18:55Seven: Days Long Gone

Anyone aware of any (obviously, third person birds-eye-view) games that combine the usability of KB+M with the tight controls of WSAD movement?

Definitely not an RPG. Action/stealth game with RPG elements, maybe.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ July 31st, 2023, 18:55Seven: Days Long Gone

iirc it was a massive clusterfuck at launch, hence the low review scores from both the critics and players alike. I assume you're playing Enhanced Edition?rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ July 31st, 2023, 18:55Seven: Days Long Gone

I think the game tries to be fair overall but it's not 100% a puzzle game and there are definitely situations in which it is impossible to prevent all damage. I once had an enemy wedge itself behind a building relative to my forces while floating over water, making it actually impossible to dislodge with my selected team. It happens. I've never lost all my structure HP in one mission due to something like that, though, so if you're playing optimally in general you can usually afford to take a hit here and there.Emphyrio wrote: ↑ July 31st, 2023, 19:17I am playing Into the Breach, the "Neon Genesis Evangelion"-themed puzzle game. Yes, it's decent enough. Lilith VII got a bloodline due to murdering over 100 people before she turned 16.

It's fitting for the spawn of Satan to have the bloodline.

Snuck into a secured area to hijack a train. Had to disable the cameras in an area that's frequented by multiple guards. Waited until 2 guards left, drew the last one out with a sound device, dropped down and ran inside, hacked the console. Right as I finished hacking it another guard was coming back in, jumped out the window to avoid being noticed. Shimmied along the outside of the train area to the door, waited until the guard at the door left, jumped down and lockpicked the door(happens in realtime), and got in before the guard got back.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ July 31st, 2023, 18:55Seven: Days Long Gone

This game is very close to being good. It's a good stealth game, but not a good RPG. But I'm not a big fan of stealth games.

It was a job with two other thieves, I agreed to hand over the artifact to them afterwards to avoid spilling blood. Then I pickpocketed it back.
Functional NPC inventories should be mandatory, not something that is seen as an "immersive" element.

I'm more surprised that it's pretty good, as nobody ever really talks about it except negatively. It's not bad at all. When you underestimate a game, a solid 7 ends up being pleasantly surprising.WhiteShark wrote: ↑ August 1st, 2023, 20:58Your raving over this game in a genre you don't like has inspired me to put this on my 'games to try' list.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ August 1st, 2023, 17:40This game is very close to being good. Quests have different ways to solve them, there's a lot of interactions you can do that aren't forced and affect the world state e.g.,
Some guy was getting mugged when I was entering prison and I saved him, it opened up a questline because he was a member of some gang. I saved and checked to see if it was a forced event, and nope, if you don't react within a few seconds he just gets murdered. Wasn't some gay dialogue choice either, you had to go knock the guy out. I snuck up behind him and put him in a sleeper hold.

After a few more hours playing, I've concluded that Into the Breach is easy as hell, even on hard mode with all the advanced options enabled.

Just finished Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The DLC area sucked *** and I nearly dropped the game there. Consisted of tiny corridor levels that didn't leave you much room for stealth or alternate routes. The ending was weak. I was bothered by how little ammunition the game gave you, how dependent you were on the cloaking aug to do any meaningful stealth, and the fact that you needed to eat candy bars to regen energy. But the beginning was strong, and the hub type levels were good. Overall was ok, I recommended it in another thread here but not sure if I would still, having seen the rest of it.
