Because "playing pretend", especially the heavy-roleplay focus that is 5th edition, is very appealing to certain people? WotC is catering to their audience. And btw, that would be fine to me, as long as you don't trash the name of Gary Gygax in the process like they did with the 50th anniversary book. They can keep the cesspool, I switched to old school Dungeons & Dragons (OSRIC, a revisit of aDnD 1st edition), and I personally think it's 100x better than 5th ed will ever be.

Also, it is kinda going broke. From what I heard WotC is not doing very well with the new edition of DnD coming out. woke aside, the whole gaming space keeps lamenting that they have less and less DMs.

I suggest the channel "Grumpy Old Grognard" if you want to hear about the topic. His takes genuinely make you want to have a conversation about different ideas and ideals without all the vitriol we are so used to.

I'll like to point out that there is more going on with WotC than the woke ****. The reason 5e became as popular as it did wasn't just because of Critical Role but also COVID. It was a perfect storm for WotC during the COVID days. With COVID keeping people in their homes they needed to do something to pass the time. So they ended up watching Critical Role, Stranger Things and began to play D&D. There was a time when you would see 5e books get sold out on Amazon. Now? Not so much anymore. The golden days of COVID are over. People are back at work or doing other hobbies. WotC stocks have been in a slump since COVID ended. The woke **** is just the cherry on top the **** sundae. This company is on life support and there may be some truth to the rumors that Hasbro wants to sell off some of WotC assets and whatnot to other companies.

- By a studio that has made RPGs like Divinity Original Sin (slightly pozzed), but also w40k Rogue Trader (no pozzed). Alas, a studio that makes games for the target demographic of the setting.

I think context matters.

Two corrections. Original Sin is woke just not as much as BG3.

Rogue Trader is not developed by Larian, who developed Original Sin and BG3. Owlcat, who developed both Pathfinder games, are the ones responsible for Rogue Trader.

KCD1 sold 500k after 2 days, KCD2 1M after 1 day. Took KCD 1 about 10 days to pass the 1M mark

The gameplay of the 1st was unique, now alongside an equipment and skill reset(?) It's just boring.
