Games with huge filesizes are an automatic nope for me. Yes, I have the space, yes, I have the bandwidth, no, I don't want to pay you for doing negative compression. There's no need to be wasteful, you might as well compel nations to make road lanes that are 100 meters (328 ft for you freedom lovers) wide. There's no ******* need. Compress your games, I'm not going to fill my disk with crap.

Is there an example of a mobile port to PC that wasn't a complete trash game?
I see little reason for Steam to not outright ban these sorts of games. I can already read the kneejerk "censorship!", but it's not censorship anymore than Steam rejecting listing physical boardgames. These aren't PC games.

"metroidvania" isn't a real genre. it's just one of those many examples of nintendo fans who exclusively play nintendo games or clones of nintendo games.
Basically,

Should've at least been called "Metroid-like", Metroidvania just doesn't make any sense.

Nintendo likely makes better games than your favorite developer. I presume this is a source of butthurt for many.

Below the Root, looks like an interesting Metroidvania I hadn't heard of until now. Might give it a try later.

Metroid-like and Metroidvania are different. Metroidvania comes from Symphony of the Night, which took the Metroid formula and added RPG elements like level, character stats, and itemization.

@rusty_shackleford do your Below-the-Root-likes have RPG elements, or are they just Metroid-likes?

Metroidvanias usually lack the vania part almost invariably. They're Metroid-likes. Or like a bong would say, Jet Set Willy likes (willyvanias?).

Was expecting more discussion about where the key resellers get their keys. Isn't this problem almost exclusively the fault of the developers and publishers handing them out like candy to streamers and reviewers of questionable value?

Steam allows developers/publishers to generate and sell keys for their games completely bypassing the Steam cut. ...Which makes the entire epic store argument kinda funny tbh.
e.g., GreenManGaming exclusively(?) sources its keys from publishers/developers

IS GREEN MAN GAMING LEGIT?

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Yesssssss.

Full answer: Every key we sell comes directly from game publishers, meaning when you purchase from us you know you aren’t getting a key from a dodgy source… We have contracts with over 1300 publishers making us an official source for PC and Xbox keys.

What does that mean for you? It means if you buy a key from us it supports developers and publishers so they can keep making the games you love. It means every purchase you make with us is official and legitimate, helping you shop in safety.

When purchasing with us you'll instantly get your key for games that have already been released. Pre-purchase keys are provided nearer to launch; you can check out more info on our support site. We sell games that activate on a wide variety of DRM platforms with easy-to-follow, step-by-step guides that help you activate your purchase straight away. Buying with us is quick, safe, and simple: it's never been easier to get into gaming than with Green Man Gaming.

But that's more of a grey area, and I don't think Valve would appreciate developers and publishers shining light on it. They want their 30% cut, regardless if they allow the possibility for third party sales to occur. The Epic Games Store makes it an official policy, and even pays devs/publishers for exclusivity.

But if most users suddenly switched to buying third party keys, I think they'll change their tune really quick. This, to me, seems like more of a courtesy.

I did not buy anything during the steam sale but I did use synchtrayzor to get 100 gigs of gog games from a friend. That means in 2023 I got about 8 or 9 games from him.

I did not want to make a thread just to ask anybody if they have used any mods for The Witcher 1? Perhaps a general RPG thread would be required or it just got pushed to the bottom and I did not see it.
