Anyone knows Sacred?

I learned to use the mouse with this game, and I personally love it to bits.
It has some RPG elements in the form of choices like rejecting to help or accepting a bribe and turning on the original quest giver (like a quest where you can sell a virgin to a sect instead of reuniting her with her father after battling your way back to her home, if I remember correctly. That wizard appearing scared the **** out of me with no potions left and very little to heal her with against their dark needle/spike wizardry). I learned of the existence of Diablo from this game as well as they, from what I read, got plenty of inspiration from it, and left a few call-backs to the games, here and there, particularly a den of undead cows in the spider/dark elves area).

GOG
https://www.gog.com/en/game/sacred_gold

Steam

I personally have the CD and have it on GOG, not sure how it works on Steam.
If anyone wishes to try it, know that you don't have to heal following NPCs/companions by drag and dropping potions onto their portrait or use healing magic on them, you can also automatically heal them by the press of a key ( Shift + B ). I also, still personally, prefer the original base game (or Silver edition, also known as, if I remember correctly, Plus), as the Underworld stuff added too much silly humor (and the campaign feels a bit empty of detail and full of bugs compared to the original) for my tastes. If one gets the Gold edition, you can know which quest is new because, after being completed, the NPC will just freeze in place and be un-interactable, while normal Sacred they will have dialogue and move about. If one is familiar with Sacred 2 and it's writing, expect something similair from Underworld, even if still tamer from what I call "Americanization" humour.
It is also moddable, and it requires Sacred Model Extractor https://vk.com/page-8640958_27430970 and to just rename the file to the one you want (can even play as monsters like this, and I know some edit meshes and textures as well). I personally made the slave Dark Elves as the playable Dark Elf, as well as restoring (?) the Dark Elf used for the portrait compared to the slightly different one that is playable in the base game (I can share if one wants/if it is possible to, unsure about copyright stuff, don't want to give trouble).
I also used this game to better learn both Italian and English, but the Italian voice acting (which was wonderful for me) is missing from GOG (unsure about the Steam version). Don't know if I can share it here, but if needed, even just for archive sake, do let me know!
Hope this is the right section for this. I didn't see Sacred around here, so I wanted to share :) Best of things!

Never played Sacred 2, but Sacred 1 is strictly okay. The biggest hurdle I have with many Diabloclones is they make me want to just play D1/D2 instead. To its credit though at least Sacred 1 came out before every other Diablo wannabe tried to shamelessly ripoff D2 until the end of time so it's forced to do something different than be another repeat.

To clarify: it wasn't until POE that this whole subgenre became infested with a long line of, "Remember in D2 when..." ****.

Sacred 2 looks a lot like Oblivion. I enjoy a good Diablo-like too, so I might pick it up

I am very new to Diablo (I still haven't been able to give it a proper try), but I do believe that if I played Diablo before Sacred, just by looking at the character selection and how 1:1 Sacred's is to it, I can already tell I would say the same. I am amazed games are even allowed to be such cookie-cut same with one another and get away with it, but people get removed from platforms for playing a copyrighted song or something like it. Strange stuff, I am not sure I will ever truly understand :?

Sacred 2 was alright when I played it, but, maybe because I expected something like the original, the humour really put me off of it. It is a good game to kill monsters (and time) though, much like the first one, though I find the original Sacred more relaxing for my sleepless nights. Hope you like them both if you try them out!

Back before the idea of a "diablo-like" was cemented and these games actually tried to be RPGs with action combat rather than loot grinders. Another good one is Divine Divinity.

I didn't even know Sacred 3 was a thing! Can you tell me more about it from your experience with it?

Only instaled a pirate version and deleted it. Diablo 3 tier trash.

An reviewer : No RPG elements, No loot, no customization, bland and repetitive combat, annoying dialogues, bad humor, no longevity and in addition IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SACRED

I feared the worst, and somehow it still managed to be worse than my lower expectations. Thank you for sharing, and warning, about this!

Sacred was the first game my wife and I played couch co-op, on our (then) X360. We had a ton of fun with it, but it wasn't my favorite of our couch games.

I still wish I could buy it again on our current console though. A sadly underserved genre in Current Year.

Are there any "mandatory" mods for this?

Not that I know of, I always played it "as-is", and the mods I know exist are more on the "let's swap things for fun" variety. No fixes that I know of, nor any woke to remove, though the Underworld campaign is in dire need of some fixing for some things (like potential companions getting stuck in a state where they cannot move nor attack for the rest of the game).
One mod I made is to restore the Dark Elf character to his original (still in the games files) appearance that more closely resembles his portrait, will have to dust my memory on how to do it if there is interest for me to upload it though as I can't remember the specifics on how to mod this game.

Yep, and as you say; the base game was the most interesting. When dwarves started flying around shooting with guns my interest fell considerably.

Grew up playing Sacred 1 & 2, great games and again the original german voice acting beats dubs by far because it's the same with Gothic, it has a certain feel to it that can only be appreciated by germans and does not translate well to other languages.

Played 1 & 2, and while interesting they never could hold my attention for long. I think I never even finished the base campaign.
I think the biggest issue with them is the lack a BattleNet equivalent.

I haven't played these games but I won't lie, this thread made me a bit interested in them. Looks like there's the ReBorn HD for 1 but I read it's more of a rebalance mod so it may not be intended for first-timers. For 2 there's the Purist Fixpack which looks pretty nice and another Community Patch but I don't know how much that one alters the vanilla experience. I feel like none of these are strictly mandatory though. :)

I played it in Polish (Enlgish dub), Italian and now have it on GOG in the original German and I can also say that, aside from the GOG lacking the Italian dub for some reason last I checked (which I can give if anyone wants to archive or something, straight from the disk), I also noticed they mix and matched the creature voices in the game for every other dub for some reason. The bandits have the Dark Elf dying and wounded voices for some lines, the Dark Elves themselves have at times no voices, and more like that, the German (original) dub is the only one who has everything there and even has other lines in their elvish for the Dark Elf enemies. No idea why they butchered the audio so much for this game, it is very strange.

Sacred 1 was cool. I remember that Seraphine is the weakest character, but I especially liked her. For several reasons.
I also dig De Mordri (sp?) aesthetics a lot.
