All you need to know about the links between gambling addiction and MMOs is that ALL the MMO companies have hired experts or consultants that previously only worked in the gambling industry.
Goes a long way towards explaining why no MMO is addictive anymore then, considering psychology is mostly unreproducible ********.
Thank you for your attention to this matter!

It also explains why the only thing they develop is cash shops.

They don't want addicting gameplay for the masses.
They want addicting spending for the vulnerable, especially the whales.
You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

The addictive element is the social interaction. MMOs have been replaced by twitter and facebook. People don't need to learn a combat rotation in order to socialize in real-time online anymore.

Lots of current MMOs also try too hard to combat "toxic" chat and end up neutering the social experience because it's so tightly controlled.

Last time I checked, people do still play private servers of pre-2010 MMO games. I even see advertisements of private MMO servers on boomerbook on occasion.

That's pretty cool. Some people from here played Ascension for a while. We might pick it back up again, if we do you should join in.

As you can see, my current character is on Warmane, but I definitely won't mind downloading Ascension to play!

How is Ascension compared to others like Warmane? My usual pc will take a while to fix and I could install WoW on this other one to play.

I haven't played Warmane but I assume you know Ascension works on a classless system right? Although it does have preset "archetypes" which are essentially classes. They're all different from vanilla classes though.

I did see that yes, but is the rest of the game different in any way? Some of the servers I played modified things like removing quest requirements or making skills like unarmed level up automatically, which were changes that were not listed until I got in the game, and I prefer to earn those things on my own.

Update: failed to find more info on their site but became curious after reading into their explanation of the character stats, which gave me a good impression that they care for these things, and installed. As I thought, the skills are all already maxed out, but the class system is interesting enough. My only gripe for now is that it seems there is a not-optional increase in movement speed. Not sure if it's the usual "newcomer bonus" thing that will fade away, but I am not sure how long can I go before I won't be able to stand it any longer. Might get used to it, who knows.
If anyone wants the "invite a friend" bonus thing, do let me know! I will be testing around more in the meantime.

Double post, just wanted to say that Ascension really surprised me. It is also the most "normal WoW" I have played in a while because they gave care to the little details (mobs speaking lines, those black widows at the Forsaken starting area left with aggressive aggro, NPCs doing emotes, etc). Will have to go all the way to Dalaran or find some other such interactable NPC (like the rock band I forget the name of in the Blood Elves capital) to see if they react to player emotes. If they do, like in vanilla WoW, then this is truly awesome.

Sorry for triple post combo, wanted to ask if anyone knows if its possible to make characters have the Death Knight voice and visuals in Ascension WoW. The abilities are there, but I am not seeing anything about this, wanted to hold off making a smith because I always make a Death Knight smith with a silly name every server I play, but it would feel pointless without the undead visuals.

Not every. You are probably thinking of the big MMOs that got a lot of marketing here in the West, like Warhammer, SWTOR, Wildstar, FF14, etc. Tree of Savior was a spiritual successor to Ragnarok Online. ArcheAge took after Lineage and Ultima Online. The kickstarter MMOs like Crowfall, Star Citizen, Ashes of Creation, etc, tended to lean towards being sandbox games.

He's been streaming on Twitch for over 17 hours now. I'm the only viewer. He's snorting coke and tabbing between Factorio and coding. Sometimes he mumbles incoherently.

This looks almost nothing like Rastakhan what the ****
Card game artists are usually freelance artists who get contracted to make a few cards, rather than regular full time employers of the company. But looking at the hearthstone wiki page, the artist seems to have done several, so I'd imagine the artist would be aware of WoWpedia or WoWhead or other ways to research what the character looks like, if not having been given materials by Blizzard.

Always liked trolls but am not too in deep with their lore, and yet I am already feeling the "that's ********" outrage for his face. If the artist even knows what he is drawing, there is no reason why he should do something like this. I can't recall who it was at the moment, but I did see other such ******** with other games where it felt like someone made a "character at home" drawing, uncaring of how much the details they changed actually matter story and lore-wise, or even just because what they changed completely changes the character's characterization. Feels like some secondhand China made knockoff of sorts passed around as "official".

Blizzard probably just hired somebody like Val sad, went "uhh draw this character" and didn't elaborate further, and it shows.

Also, his ingame model is a bit crusty (it's a modified male troll one). Still not an excuse.

His cutscene model is so much better and I wish WoW had a new engine.
