Making a thread to discuss this game because I'm a nice person and @Zothique is too scared to make it.

Thanx, but it needs a cool title like "Path of Achra Man Crush Club" or something.

@Kalarion played it for a while and said it was more like a clicker game, iirc, that put me off it

It is, in the sense that turns auto-resolve. You advance turns manually, but actual actions are controlled by the game based on several simple rules. Both enemy and NPC actions are completely exposed. Player skill expression comes through predicting what actions will be taken on a given turn and how to maneuver enemies into essentially killing themselves. It isn't a standard rpg/roguelike but I found it highly compelling.

@Zothique what builds do you favor? I tried several and found that running as a summoner just seems to be flat-out better than any other option. Was I right, or was I just doing other builds wrong?

Also big agree with Zothique on the music. It's a highlight of the game.

I forgot to add, the one thing you control as a player is movement. You can move or act on a given turn. If you move, you're the one who decides where you go, which can be useful for the usual reasons (taking advantage of LOS etc).

It sort of is a clicker game, but it has a lot of depth to it that even I'm just starting to realize.

Play the most recent demo and see if it's something you'd like. Give it a few rounds, though.

Poison right now if I can swing it, but a lot of people swear on bleed being OP.

Want to build a Death/necromancer character at some point...

I think it would be better described as one of those ______ survivor games, but turn-based. I'd say that if you like planning out a character and building it, and wished there was a game solely focused on that, then here it is! That being said, finding fun/strong builds or trying to get through it with weaker builds is all it really is. The combat sure isn't anything to write home about and you can just end up clicking the same spot over and over. The real goal is to replay the game and complete it with as many classes as possible, so if you don't delight in replayability, it's probably not for you.

@Kalarion I would say that summoner is the best, it always felt like a breeze to get through the end. I beat it first with the necromancer and death powers only. I should probably try to do the "weaker" classes, though it seems champion has the highest rate of completion.

The highest cycle has been defeated by this "build" made through auto-attributing all stat points to vigor and dumping skill points into evasion and heal. I only held down the "stand still" key from start to finish.

By the way, you can't change the order of operations of skills without touching the code. Many of the skills that should synergize don't because they're ordered in the wrong way.
