Why is poison ALWAYS green in video games? Alternatives.

PoE2 also has green poison. Even the ******* thing is called "chaos dmg". Like wtf? This actually concerns other damage as well. Lightning is always blue. Fire is always red. etc. This is so outdated. We need some pink and purple here.

There are so many poisons out there. Even lead is poisonous. And you know ******* used to use lead to white their faces. Lead is not green.
Lead is a neurotoxin that accumulates in soft tissues and bones. It damages the nervous system and interferes with the function of biological enzymes, causing neurological disorders ranging from behavioral problems to brain damage, and also affects general health, cardiovascular, and renal systems. Lead's toxicity was first documented by ancient Greek and Roman writers, who noted some of the symptoms of lead poisoning, but became widely recognized in Europe in the late 19th century AD.

Arsenic is the king of poisons, and the poison of kings. It's no surprise that a notable color related to it would become the color of poison.Yankee Zulu wrote: ↑ December 12th, 2024, 16:02There are so many poisons out there. Even lead is poisonous. it's green in most games and media because green can be used for nature etc, but also rotten/putrid shite. So most copy/paste and call it a day as a green weapon or liquid will be an obvious hint that this thing is nasty.
Funny we don't have that issue for lightning, it can be white or some light blue.
I'm unsure who started it for poison. Maybe from the Middle Ages ? Green was the color associated to the devil, so maybe.

"Oh, it all makes sense now, brother."
The best poisons are colorless
Victors clap when others succeed; Losers feel every spotlight as a personal bleed.
True. When the snake or spider bites you, you DO NOT TURN GREEN FFS. You just die.

I've seen a lot of green and purple poison in my games. Rarely other colors, maybe black.

In year of our lord 2024, cultural tides have shifted and it is understood that the color of poison is best represented as "dangerhair pink".
I understand what youre saying but I personally nsver heard about Sheeles Green. I heard about arsenic, yes. But arsenic isnot green afaik. It looks like lead.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ December 12th, 2024, 16:19Arsenic is the king of poisons, and the poison of kings. I feel like brown/ black communicates poison too
I apologize if my responses were not relevant to your needs. As an AI language model, I do not have personal beliefs or opinions, and I only provide responses based on the information provided to me.
Some games use purple, some use green, I prefer the latter as it's a clear sign if your health bar/orb suddenly changes color to a very different setup of RGB values.
Funny that green ended up being the color of both poison and healing.
Maybe because poison is a bad gameplay mechanic.

As something that is just a nondescript damage over time mechanic that is purely a gameplay mechanic? I agree.
Things like diseases in elder scrolls games are much more interesting.

poison should be colorless
poisoned characters should show no visible symptoms until they are sick enough

I think Venom Mage in DCSS is a fun start, and I really enjoy the spell Poison Arrow. It's green and does a lot of damage.
Colorless, odorless, and tasteless, and hopefully you've built up an immunity to it so you can win a battle of wits to the death.
Well, in both cases, you consume or are injected with a substance, and this causes a health change. Poison is just negative healing.WhiteShark wrote: ↑ December 13th, 2024, 00:02Funny that green ended up being the color of both poison and healing.
My guess is that Japs missed the period that Euros went through of poisoning themselves with arsenic, thus the association of arsenic green with poison isn't part of their culture.
